Tom Hanks in “Forrest Gump”

Forrest Gump (1994)Directed by Robert ZemeckisI posted an @Instagram story asking for suggestions on future sketches. Thanks to everyone who took time to give their ideas! I got quite a few suggestions, but for today I decided to go with a sketch of Tom Hanks from "Forrest Gump". This one is courtesy @mrinalini_82 and @sampath_babu. I realized that I'd actually not drawn Tom Hanks before, so took up this suggestion. I have not seen the movie in a very long time though, I should re watch it. This movie won the Academy Award for Best Picture, beating "Pulp Fiction", which I actually like better than this. But this is still a wonderful movie, and Robert Zemeckis would go on to direct "Cast Away" some years later, which also featured an amazing performance by Tom Hanks. This is a scan of the pencil on paper sketch. #241 / 23-Mar-17

Postergully Sketchbooks

#ThrowbackThursday A shot featuring my sketchbooks ordered from @postergully, with my artwork on the cover. Many of my @dailymoviesketch drawings are done in these sketchbooks. I'm submitting this photo as an entry for their competition, #Click4Poster under the Art Making category as it shows my Rajnikanth sketch. I'll be scanning the sketch and making it available on Postergully. #VSCOCam #Samsung #Galaxy #S7 #dual_composition #handsinframe I was a bit tied up with work the last few days that's why there were no new sketches. I'll resume today.

Emma Watson from “This is The End”

This is the End (2013)Directed by Seth Rogen and Evan GoldbergI received this as a suggestion, that I should draw Emma Watson sometime. So I did today - she makes a cameo appearance in this 2013 comedy about a bunch of celebrities getting together for a party at James Franco's house, the festivities being interrupted by the Biblical apocalypse. A very funny movie that I watched a few years ago. I rewatched it today on Netflix while I was drawing this. This is a pencil drawing and I'm posting a scan. #240 / 19-Mar-17

Entry for #WHPyoungatheart

Entry for @instagram's Weekend Hashtag Project, #WHPyoungatheart. The things in the photo - an old Batman paperback from the 1960s (the stories being in the vein of the 60s TV show which I used to watch in the early 90s) along with my @dailymoviesketch drawing of the Joker from "The Lego Batman Movie", a drawing of Jackie Chan from "Operation Condor: Armour of God II" that I drew 21 years ago, along with my @dailymoviesketch drawing done a few days ago. A Superman toy that I recently got along with a McDonald's Happy Meal is also in the frame (see @karthikabhiram for a photo I posted using the toy). #VSCOCam #Canon #5DMarkIII

Bahubali 2: Kattappa Drawing

Bahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)Directed by S S RajamouliIn my drawing featuring the anticipated movies of 2017, I wanted to include "Bahubali 2: The Conclusion", but at that time, there was no footage from the movie that had been released, so I didn't include it.Yesterday, the first trailer for this concluding part of S S Rajamouli's epic production came out, and it looks great. I think, the visuals here are improved compared to the first movie. I am eagerly looking forward to April 28, when the movie would be released, and we will finally get the answer to the question that the first movie raised with its cliffhanger ending - "Why Kattappa Killed Baahubali". I will re-watch Part 1 before it, of course. There are two shots in the #Baahubali2 trailer that I really liked. There's one shot that appears at the very end of the trailer, after the title has come on screen - this features Praha as Baahubali and Rana Daggubati as Bhallaladeva, in the frame. This is probably from the end of the movie. The other features Kattappa (Sathyaraj) holding the baby Baahubali's foot on his forehead. This shot is actually there in the previous movie, but I suppose they'll explain the context better in Part 2. Either way, I really liked this shot so I drew it. I want to draw the one of Prabhas and Rana as well - maybe I'll do that this weekend. This is a scan of the drawing.#Baahubali #WKKB#239 / 17-Mar-17

Happy Pi Day 2017

Pi (1998)Directed by Darren AronofskyHappy Pi Day! This movie is kind of an obvious pick for the day. It's director Aronofsky's debut, a mathematical thriller filmed in high contrast black and white. The director would go on to make movies like "Requiem for a Dream" and "Black Swan", reteaming with cinematographer Matthew Libatique and composer Clint Mansell. But this is the one that started his career. Sean Gullette stars as Max, a paranoid mathematician who runs into a 216 digit number during his research, which may help him explain all of nature and might be the true name of God. There are other parties who want this number as well. It's a terrific thriller, very well filmed with a superb music score. I drew a picture of Max from towards the end of the movie. This was drawn in pencil. #238 / 14-Mar-17

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru (2016) a.k.a. 16 - Every Detail CountsDirected by Karthick Naren (@karthicknaren_m) "Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru" / "D16" / "16 Extremes" opens with a scene showing a murder in Coimbatore. This incident, and the resulting unsolved case is one that changed police officer Deepak's (Rahman) life, and it was also the one that cost him his leg. Five years later, the retired Deepak is living in Ooty. He gets a call from his old friend Rajan, requesting him to dissuade Rajan's son from joining the police force. Therefore, Deepak narrates the incidents around this pivotal case, to his visitor. What follows is an intricate non-linear narrative that tells a compelling story with twists and turns that will keep you engaged till the very end.The movie is superbly executed. It's well acted, has great cinematography, and the direction and script are great. There is literally no scene that is wasted. It balances the murder mystery and characterisation very well. It is an absolute must watch. If no one told you that this is the debut film from a 22-year old writer-director, you'd never know it - it's an assured and strong film with excellent production value. I'd rate it a 9 or even a perfect 10/10. The director appears in the movie as a short filmmaker. It was the excellent trailer for this movie which pushed it onto my "highly anticipated movies" list. It was released in Tamil Nadu towards the end of 2016, but unfortunately took until this Friday to get released in theatres in AP & Telangana. It's currently playing in its original Tamil language and also in a Telugu dubbed version with the sketchy title "16 - Every Detail Counts". One thing I must point out though, is that the trailer (which has shots filmed specifically for it) sells you a different movie than what we finally got. Maybe in an alternate universe, a different version of D16 exists, which is a straight psycho killer story! This is a sketch of Rahman as Inspector Deepak from the movie. It was drawn with @Prismacolor pencils on @strathmoreart Toned Tan paper. This is a scanned version of the drawing. Thanks to those who joined the live broadcast of me drawing this! #237 / 12-Mar-17

Deadpool: No Good Deed

Deadpool: No Good Deed (2017)Directed by David LeitchAs I mentioned with my previous sketch and review of "Logan", there are no mid or post credit scenes in that movie, because that would not fit with its more serious tone. However, a teaser for "Deadpool 2" plays before the movie in the US. We did not get that intro here, however the short teaser (called "No Good Deed") was later released online by Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds (@vancityreynolds). This short obviously doesn't have any footage from the actual movie (since "Deadpool 2" hasn't begun shooting yet), but it's a funny intro that builds anticipation for the movie. The clip released online is a slightly longer version than the one that played in the theatres. "Deadpool 2" (and this teaser clip) is directed by David Leitch, one half of the directing team behind the first "John Wick". The teaser features a cameo appearance by Stan Lee, who says to Deadpool, "Nice suit!", to which Deadpool replies, "Zip it, Stan Lee!". I did a sketch of Stan Lee from this video. The clip features the theme from "Superman" by John Williams as well as the theme music from "True Romance", by Hans Zimmer. #236 / 9-Mar-17

Deadpool Drawings

#ThrowbackThursday Sharing a set of Deadpool drawings I did, the bottom one being a #DailyMovieSketch drawing. The others are from before I started this account. The one on the right is what I use as the Profile Photo here. Posting this because it's related to "Logan". There are no mid or post credit scenes because that would go against the serious tone of the movie. Instead, in the US, a teaser for "Deadpool 2" played before the movie. That teaser has made its way online in two versions. I'll probably do a drawing from it as well. #VSCOCam #Samsung #Galaxy #S7 #dual_composition #handsinframe
