The Twelve Tasks of Asterix (1976)Directed by Henri Gruel, Pierre WatrinFor many people Asterix books would have been a big part of their childhood — it certainly was for me! Recently, illustrator Albert Uderzo passed away, so I thought I'll do a drawing of Asterix as a tribute. This is from the movie "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix" from 1976, but I'm also tagging this for @mangopenciler's #90snostalgia — since in the mid 1990s, all of these Asterix animated movies were shown on TV (STAR Movies). #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #asterix #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#523 / 27-Mar-20

Mad Max: Fury Road (Black & Chrome Edition) (2015)Directed by George MillerSo this is a movie from the pre-@dailymoviesketch days — the fourth "Mad Max" movie, coming in 30 years after Part 3! Certainly, this was one of the best movies of 2015, an incredible action film, with fantastic visuals, amazing worldbuilding, economic storytelling, terrific music, and superb stunts. Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) must work with Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron) to transport something that belongs to the warlord Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) to safety. A genre film (the series that probably defined the post apocalyptic aesthetic) being nominated for a Best Picture Oscar was probably unheard of, but this one did it — and it deserves it. I loved the film.Since I watched "Mad Max 2" a couple of days back (with everyone being in lockdown due to #coronavirus #covid19), I thought I'll rewatch this. Instead of watching the regular version of the movie, I watched the "Black & Chrome" Edition (rented it for ₹120 on Google Play Movies), which is a special B&W version of the movie (it's not just a desaturated version of the movie, they've specifically graded it in B&W). The movie is as good as ever, but after watching both the versions, I actually prefer the regular colour version only (since it's use of colour is awesome, with vibrant blues and oranges). Nevertheless it was an interesting experience watching it in B&W.I drew Immortan Joe from the movie, in B&W — the drawing was done with Bic ballpoint pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #madmax#furyroad #madmaxfuryroad#immortanjoe #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpenart#522 / 24-Mar-20

Mad Max 2 a.k.a. The Road Warrior a.k.a. Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981)Directed by George MillerStaying at home this weekend and not going out, watching movies and drawing — in other words, an ideal way of spending the weekend for me! One of the many #coronavirus memes depicted "the apocalypse outfit I expected vs apocalypse outfit in reality", and the left image showed The Humungus from "Mad Max 2", the right one showed a person in their pajamas. So, I decided to re-watch this movie I hadn't seen in years. For many people, their exposure to "Mad Max" would've been the 2015 "Mad Max: Fury Road", but for me, it's seeing video boxes and posters of "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" in video rental shops in the late 80s and early 90s. It's only some 10-12 years ago though that I watched the original three movies and later in 2015 watched "Fury Road". "Mad Max 2" is a very entertaining action movie, set in a post apocalyptic world with gangs after gasoline (a precious commodity). Mel Gibson is the titular Max, who ends up helping a group of people defend their refinery against bike gangs led by The Humungus. The stunts, cinematography are all great and this is recognised as a classic movie. I drew the Humungus from the movie, the drawing was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpenart#madmax #madmax2 #humungus#521 / 21-Mar-20

Black Widow (2020)Directed by Cate ShortlandA new and final (?) trailer for "Black Widow" was released a few days ago and it's really good, and does a good job of building anticipation for the movie. I was a bit worried that they're showing too much in the trailer, but hopefully that won't be the case.I liked the 'family' dynamic established for Natasha in this trailer, and the action scenes seem epic (apparently they got "John Wick" crew on board for some of them). I'm looking forward to the movie!I drew Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova from the movie. The drawing was done with Bic ballpoint pen and Gelly Roll pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #blackwidow #blackworknow #florencepugh #yelenabelova #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#520 / 15-Mar-20

Dumb and Dumber (1994)Directed by Peter Farrelly1994 was Jim Carrey's year, the actor becoming a comedy superstar with three hit movies being released all in the span of those 12 months. "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", "The Mask" and "Dumb and Dumber" were hugely popular and I loved all three movies. For @mangopenciler's #drawwithmango #90snostalgia last year, I drew Jim from "The Mask", so this time I drew him as Lloyd Christmas from "Dumb and Dumber". The drawing was done with @staedtler ballpoint pens and Gelly Roll pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #jimcarrey #dumbanddumber #ballpointpen#519 / 8-Mar-20

Speed (1994)Directed by Jan de Bont "Pop Quiz, hot shot — there's a bomb on a bus. Once the bus goes 50 miles an hour, the bomb is armed. If it drops below 50, it blows up. What do you do?" 𝙎𝙋𝙀𝙀𝘿 (1994) is a thoroughly entertaining, fast paced action film, starring Keanu Reeves as Officer Jack Traven, who must stop bomber Howard Payne, who has planted a bomb on a bus. I watched this movie dozens of times during school days on VHS, and I love it. So, when @mangopenciler announced the return of #drawwithmango #90snostalgia, I picked this to draw. The 1990s gave us several fantastic movies, and I intend to make more drawings based on those. This was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #pencil #pencildrawing #miniatureart #aninchaugust #518 / 5-Mar-20
