This tells the story of the Kid in “The Matrix Revolutions”, and how he knew that something was wrong with the world. I loved the animation style and the music (the short features ‘Who Am I’ by Peace Orchestra). [#AnInchAugust × #DailyMovieSketch]The Matrix Revolutions (2003)Directed by The WachowskisPicking up from yesterday's artwork for the #AnInchAugust challenge (where the goal is to make art that fits in an inch square), since I re-watched the Matrix movies recently, today's post is from the third movie in the trilogy, “The Matrix Revolutions”. This film picks up directly where “Reloaded” ended, and continues to build up Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) as the antithesis of Neo / The One (Keanu Reeves), as someone who is all powerful and is spreading through the Matrix. Also, the onslaught of the machine army continues and the Sentinels will reach the human city of Zion in a few hours. Neo in the mean time, intends to end the War. “Reloaded” and “Revolutions” are interesting films, perhaps they don't reach the greatness and efficiency of the first film, but they are good movies and the Wachowskis' vision still stands out.This is a drawing of Agent Smith in the gold Matrix code that Neo sees. [#AnInchAugust × #DailyMovieSketch]The Matrix Reloaded (2003)Directed by The WachowskisAs I mentioned in yesterday's post, I re-watched the Matrix trilogy on Netflix recently, and therefore yesterday's and today's entries for the #AnInchAugust challenge (the goal being to make drawings that fit in an inch square) are based on those movies. The first Matrix movie was a more self contained story, the sequels which were released six months apart, expand a lot upon the world established in the first film. They build Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) as the antithesis of Neo / The One. Another plot thread set up is the approach of the Machine swarm to the human city of Zion, and the prophecy that the War between the humans and machines will finally end, and Neo holding the key to that.The sequels feel much more comic bookish than the original, and being bigger budgeted, take everything to the next level. I do feel they went overboard in certain places though. But no one can deny the singular vision of The Wachowskis, which make these films worth watching.This is a drawing of Monica Bellucci as Persephone from the sequel. [#AnInchAugust × #DailyMovieSketch]The Matrix (1999)Directed by The WachowskisI recently re-watched all three Matrix movies on @netflix (before they disappeared from the platform on 31-Jul). It has been several years since I saw them. The first one I had seen a few months before I was to start my Engineering course, and the second one, was before I was to start my Management course. And the third one was the first movie I watched on an IMAX screen back when Prasad's Multiplex had a real 70mm IMAX system. This was all before Instagram and Facebook, I remember friends discussing the movies to no end (@kashyapchandra had an explanation all written out), and there is even an ASCII version of the first movie that was posted online.Rewatching them now, you can make out how well made the first is – the style, visual effects, action sequences all still hold up today. The first movie probably is the more restrained one of the lot, the sequels indulge in a bit of excess in everything, but they were still very good movies. This is a classic shot from the first movie where Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) reveals to Neo (Keanu Reeves) that humanity is being used as a power source for the machines that have taken over the world, and that people are living in a simulation called The Matrix. I drew this with my favourite 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on paper, the battery top was coloured with a Prismacolor pencil. Normally I convert my drawings to B&W after I scan them, but here I left the colour on the battery obviously, and also let the yellowish colour of the paper show through in Morpheus's glasses.This was drawn for the #aninchaugust challenge where the goal is to make drawings that fit into an inch square.I will post a photo of this on @karthikabhiram as well. #362 / 1-Aug-18

Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018)Directed by Christopher McQuarrieThis sixth film in the series is set after the events of “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation”. After the capture of the villain Solomon Lane, the rogue agent Syndicate has been disbanded and those active among them have now formed a freelance terror group called The Apostles. They intend to sell three cores of plutonium to the mysterious John Lark. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team try to capture the cores but the mission fails and the cores are out in the wild. Hunt and team must now track down the Apostles, get the nuclear weapons back before they are sold to John Lark.The last three “Mission: Impossible” movies have all been really great, but I was a bit skeptical as to how a sixth film would be. Well, the film is fantastic. It has an engaging story full of twists and turns and incredible action sequences. While those will require you to suspend disbelief, seeing the actors performing their own stunts really helps sell them. The acting from all is very good, and the movie is very entertaining.I liked the music (by Lorne Balfe) and the cinematography by Rob Hardy (shot on film with anamorphic lenses, it just looks so cinematic and beautiful, yet a bit timeless, as it could easily pass off as a 1980s spy thriller). Henry Cavill looks badass as does his mustache, which cost the production of “Justice League” quite a bit of money to erase digitally in his scenes as Superman, during reshoots of that film.The movie is very good, a highly recommended watch.I drew Tom Cruise as Ethan from the movie, it was drawn with 0.5mm 2B pencil on Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #tomcruise #missionimpossible #missionimpossiblefallout#361 / 30-Jul-18

Wonder Woman 1984 (2019)Directed by Patty JenkinsGo to @tiny.sharma10's feed and check the latest post and her stories. She (and a few other artists) have initiated a challenge called #aninchaugust – where the task is to make a drawing within one inch square, for the month of August. There is a video there, which contains some examples – and an in-progress version of this drawing is one of them!When she told me about this challenge I was interested to make a sample drawing for it. What better drawing to do, than this one, of @gal_gadot as Wonder Woman, from the first photo of her in costume for the upcoming sequel, that she shared a few weeks back! From the moment I saw that amazing photo (shot by @clayenos), I wanted to draw it, so I did. This was done with my 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil and scanned. Truth or Dare (2018)Directed by Jeff WadlowBeen quite busy at work so not able to make sketches as regularly as I'd like. Anyway, a few days back I watched this movie, which didn't get good feedback critically. I guess the movie was OK, amusing but forgettable. It concerns a young group of people who go on spring break to Mexico, and come back with a haunting game of Truth or Dare being played with them. They tried making it as scary as they could but some of the stuff that happens really can't be taken seriously. Sacred Games (2018)Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag KashyapI finished watching the 8 episodes of "Sacred Games" on Netflix a couple of days back. It was really really good! Based on Vikram Chandra's novel, this show is set in Mumbai, and begins with gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) resurfacing after 16 years, getting in touch with cop Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan), and hinting at a terror plot, something that is going to happen in 25 days. We see flashbacks to Gaitonde's life in Bombay of the 1980s and 1990s (these scenes were directed by Anurag Kashyap), while the present day story unfolds (these scenes directed by Vikramaditya Motwane). The production value is superb. The show is very cinematic and gritty (leagues ahead I felt, compared to Amazon's "Breathe"). The Bombay scenes felt like they could be from a "Gangs of Wasseypur". The performances, cinematography and music are all great and the show is gripping. The only downside is that this set of 8 episodes adapts only the early part of the book – so it's like the first act in a movie, and makes you eager for Season 2 and 3!The show has more adult content (some nudity, sex, violence and language) than you'd see in any movie released in theatres in India. A good thing that it's on this platform so the creators are not under any kind of censorship.Nawaz is incredible in anything that he is in, and it's no different here. I drew him as Ganesh Gaitonde. This was a quick sketch with Bic ballpoint pen on paper, and this is a scan.Note: The opening title sequence is great! Ash vs Evil Dead (2015-18)Developed by Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, Tom Spezialy, Craig DiGregorio, Robert Tapert, Mark VerheidenFans of the "Evil Dead" series of movies have long awaited a fourth movie in the series, after 1992's "Army of Darkness". We got a remake directed by Fede Alvarez in 2013, and a follow up to the original series not in the form of a movie, but a TV show. "Ash vs Evil Dead" told the story of Ash 30 years after he fought evil in the original movies, with evil rising again. The show ran for 3 seasons (each comprising 10 half hour episodes), and had great production value – with stellar effects for the deadites and lots of creative blood, gore and splatter. Never mind that the story was rather convoluted, with the show changing showrunners during its run.This is a drawing of the Ashy Slashy puppet that makes its appearance in Season 2. #ThrowbackThursday Posting the scan of an old sketch I did. This is a sketch of 'Chiyaan' Vikram from the Gautham Menon movie "Dhruva Natchathiram". I did this drawing back in January 2017 based on the teaser, and this drawing was on display at the #ArtConf art exhibition in May 2017 as well. At that time I scanned this drawing but didn't post it here. Today, @prudhvichowdary shared the latest trailer of this movie on Facebook and so I thought I'd post this. The movie was supposed to be released in 2017 but I guess there was a change of crew and cast as well during production, and it's now being released in 2018. I hope I'll get to see the movie soon! It's a stylish spy thriller, something that Gautham Menon is awesome at.
