[#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberThe Thing (1982)Directed by John CarpenterThis is a sketch for the Inktober prompt word "husky". I was initially not able to think of any movie that I'd seen with a husky in it. Some days back though, @tiny.sharma10 shared an Inktober horror movie-themed prompt list by @wwowly and @skeletonjones, which had the dog-thing creature from John Carpenter's classic horror film. I didn't draw the creature version though, but the husky itself, from the beginning of the movie, which has a Norwegian helicopter pursuing a dog and attempting to kill it, near an Antarctic base. Unknown to the audience, and the crew of the base, the dog isn't what it seems to be.The dog was played by an animal actor called Jed, a dog-wolf hybrid, and as per the director's commentary, the dog was very well behaved on set and nailed his scenes in very few takes, which impressed Carpenter. So, I drew him.The drawing was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned. The movie of course, is a must-watch masterpiece, tense, with great performances, an engaging story, a terrific atmosphere and awesome music.#ballpointpen #inksketch #penandink#husky #dog #jed #thething #johncarpenter#482 / 8-Oct-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktober Rick and Morty (2013 – present)Created by Justin Roiland and Dan HarmonRejoice! We have a trailer for Season 4 of this show, which revealed that new episodes are going to be aired from November 10 onwards.I drew Rick from the promo image posted on Instagram. If this seems quickly drawn, that's because it is — it was drawn in under one minute. This is for @udaymicroartist's challenge, for creating artwork in just one minute. #oneminktoberDrawn with Bic pens on a sketchbook gifted by @dear.artsie, and scanned. [#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberIron Man (2008)Directed by Jon FavreauThis is a sketch for the Inktober prompt word "build". I remembered the clanging sound at the very end of "Avengers: Endgame", and how it's the sound of Tony Stark building his Iron Man Mark I Suit in a cave. Also, there's this dialogue from Obadaiah Stane in the movie – "Tony Stark was able to build this, IN A CAVE! With a BOX OF SCRAPS!". So, I drew the Mark I Suit from the movie. The drawing was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#ballpointpen #inksketch #penandink#ironman #robertdowneyjr #tonystark #mark1 #staedtlermars#ramindjawadi #avengers #avengersendgame #infinitysaga#480 / 6-Oct-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberTerminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)Directed by James CameronThis is a sketch for the Inktober prompt word "freeze". There are several things one could draw, one of the obvious ones being Mr Freeze from either "Batman: The Animated Series" (a good choice) or "Batman & Robin" (but who would want to watch that movie again). But, for something different I thought of the scene in "Terminator 2" where the T-1000 gets frozen in liquid nitrogen, just before Arnold utters the classic line "Hasta La Vista, Baby". I think the "Terminator" movies and "Aliens" are James Cameron's best works, period. Depsite his involvement though, I'm cautious with my expectations from the upcoming "Terminator: Dark Fate". But let's see how it is.The drawing was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#ballpointpen #inksketch #penandink #t1000 #terminator2 #t2 #arnoldschwarzenegger #robertpatrick #terminator#hastalavistababy #terminatordarkfate #darkfate#479 / 6-Oct-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberJaws (1975)Directed by Steven SpielbergThis is a sketch for the Inktober prompt word "bait" and I thought of Spielberg's "Jaws", with the lead characters trying to catch a killer Great White Shark. There is a scene in the movie where they throw chum (shark bait) into the waters, and I thought of it for the sketch.I think I would have watched the movie on video back in the early 1990s, and had not seen it after that. So, for this drawing I re-watched it (in HD for the first time, on Google Play Movies), and it is such a great film. I can understand now why it is considered a classic – everything just goes together so well. It's entertaining, fast paced, well acted, the music is fantastic, and it feels like a summer blockbuster (which it was). The sketch features Roy Scheider from the movie, along with "Bruce" the shark (the mechanical shark was apparently given this nickname, after Spielberg's lawyer). The drawing was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#ballpointpen #inksketch #penandink#jaws #stevenspielberg #bruce #shark #greatwhite #quint #youregoingtoneedabiggerboat#478 / 5-Oct-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberPlanet Terror (2007)Directed by Robert RodriguezThe second prompt word for Inktober 2019 is "Mindless" and I was racking my brains trying to think of what to draw for this. Then I remembered this scene from Robert Rodriguez's segment "Planet Terror" in the Rodriguez-Tarantino collaboration, "Grindhouse". When an outbreak of DC2 gas turns much of the population of a town into zombies (here called sickos), it's up to a small band of survivors to save the day. A gleefully splatter-filled movie, it's very entertaining and brilliantly done, and has a scene in which Stacy Ferguson's character is wheeled into a hospital, and this dialogue ensues — "Looks like a no-brainer." "What does that mean?" "No brain… scooped clean out of her skull." I drew this with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens on A6 Brustro sketchbook. [#DailyMovieSketch × #Inktober #Inktober2019] @inktoberThe Ring (2002)Directed by Gore VerbinskiThe first prompt word for Inktober 2019 is "Ring" and so this movie was an obvious choice. I drew Daveigh Chase as Samara Morgan from the movie.I had ordered a set of 10 colour @staedtlermars ballpoint pens from Amazon a couple of weeks back. My plan is to do all the Inktober sketches this year, using those (so they'll all be in colour). For this one I tried to match the greenish tint of the movie's cinematography and so used primarily black and green pens. The drawing was done on A6 Brustro sketchbook. This is a scan of the drawing. The movie itself — about a cursed videotape that causes the viewer to die seven days after watching it, is a very well made and surprisingly restrained horror film. It led to a large number of Asian Horror remakes through the 2000s. I wouldn't be wrong to call this the best of them all I guess. I actually started rewatching this movie last night on @primevideoin.#thering #ring #samara #ballpointpen#ringu #jhorror #inksketch #penandink#476 / 1-Oct-19

Zodiac (2007)Directed by David FincherI had watched this movie several years before, but didn't properly appreciate it then – when someone mentioned it recently, I rewatched it last week on Netflix. I really enjoyed it and thought it was a brilliantly made film. The movie is based on a real life, unsolved case from the 1960s and 70s – that of the "Zodiac Killer" who claimed responsibility for a number of murders, and sent evidence to the police and newspapers. The film is based on a book written by San Fransisco Chronicle cartoonist Robert Graysmith on the case, and shows us the case investigation that happened through the points of view of Graysmith (played by Jake Gyllenhaal), reporter Paul Avery (Robert Downey Jr) and inspector Dave Toschi (Mark Ruffalo). It's a very well made movie, though close to three hours long, it keeps your interest throughout. The performances, script, cinematography, direction are all stellar and show a lot of attention to detail, as you'd expect from perfectionist Fincher. Some movies, you have to be in the right frame of mind to appreciate – which I guess was not the case when I saw it many years back, so I'm glad I re-watched the movie now. Highly recommended. At the time the movie was released, there was no Marvel Cinematic Universe – it's interesting to note that the three main leads are all MCU characters now – Mysterio, Iron Man, Hulk.I drew the Zodiac Killer from the movie, this was done with Uni Pin 0.1 fineliner on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#penandink #unipin #fineliner #inksketch#zodiac #davidfincher #zodiackiller #mindhunter#475 / 29-Sep-19

Batman (1966)Directed by Leslie H Martinson “Some days, you just can’t get rid of a bomb!” It was Batman Day a couple of days ago (21 Sep I suppose — I didn’t know there was such a thing till I saw people posting about it), and I thought I’d post a Batman related sketch. Rather than go with drawing from the modern Batman movies, I thought I’d recall the 1966 movie (based on the 1966-68 TV show), which I haven’t seen in years but remember as being a lot of fun. That movie and show was completely played for laughs, including clever puns and a colourful and enjoyable approach to the material. This is a scene from the movie where Batman tries to get rid of a bomb.I drew it with multi colour ballpoint pens (Bic mostly but for the yellow, used another pen) and this is a scanned version.Recently on @thefakeadco and other places I’ve seen people add arrows pointing to elements of the @instagram interface to do clever things. While this may not be that creative I thought I’d attempt it as well. I’m posting the picture by itself on my @karthikabhiram account (that’s the one with the arrow pointing to real life elements). #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #batman #batmanday #adamwest#batman1966 #bicpen #bic#ballpointpen #penandink #inksketch #flatlay @googlepixel @googleindia #teampixel#thefakeadco #trending #arrows #dankmemes #meme #memes#474 / 22-Sep-19
