Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)Directed by Quentin TarantinoThis is a drawing for the @inktober #inktober2020 #inktober52 prompt word "snake". There are quite a few things I could have drawn, I decided to do this — I thought of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad from Kill Bill, where every member is named after a snake. I decided to draw O-Ren Ishii codename Cottonmouth. This is actually from the anime sequence in the movie showing O-Ren's story and how she became an assassin. I drew this with a blue gel pen that I got at the #BornOnInstagram event (organised by @instagram at Hyderabad on 22-Jan-20) and @staedtlermars ballpoint pens, on the book that I also got at that event. This is a scan.#dailymoviesketch#karthikabhiram #penandink #ballpointpen #killbill #anime#511 / 26-Jan-20

𝙊𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙐𝙥𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚… 𝙞𝙣 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙮𝙬𝙤𝙤𝙙 — I am a huge fan of Quentin Tarantino's work, and so I was looking forward to his ninth film. I watched it when it was released a few months ago and liked it. Unlike "Django Unchained", or even "The Hateful Eight", I didn't immediately fall in love with it though. It was very well made, but it was after watching it a second time that I liked it more. I never wrote about it earlier so thought I'd do it now, accompanying this sketch that's actually part of my Best Movies of 2019 roundup. The movie is set in 1969, with aging TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) undergoing a time of self doubt. His stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) is his friend and anchor. His neighbour is director Roman Polanski, whose wife is Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie). In real life, at this time, Tate was murdered by the cult of Charles Manson. The reason I like Tarantino's work so much is that I feel he invests so much in them, it's almost like a part of him goes into his works. Because of this, absolutely no one else can make the kind of movies he makes, and the same is true of this one. One can make out that it's so lovingly crafted. Like "Pulp Fiction", this one does not have a clear storyline, and because of that I had this odd feeling – it was always interesting but I was wondering what they were building up to. It has a very satisfying ending. But a clear single story is not the intent of this film, and this becomes clear once you watch the entire thing and you can appreciate it better on second viewing. As always, the cinematography by Robert Richardson is beautiful, and the movie has great acting from everyone. Leonardo DiCaprio is already known as an amazing actor but his performance here in my opinion exceeded whatever high expectations one would have. It's simply outstanding. Margot Robbie didn't have much to do in the movie though.A very made movie and a labour of love, it's a must for Tarantino fans, though personally I like some of his other movies better. This one inch frame is from the fictional film "The Fourteen Fists of McCluskey" starring Rick Dalton. Drew it with Prismacolor pencils and Gelly Roll.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014)Directed by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller𝘼 𝘿𝘼𝙈𝙀 𝙏𝙊 𝙆𝙄𝙇𝙇 𝙁𝙊𝙍 — 𝙄𝙉𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙏 𝘼𝙍𝙏This is a drawing for the @inktober #inktober52 #inktober2020 prompt word ‘Shadow’. When I saw that prompt, I thought of “Sin City” where Robert Rodriguez faithfully replicated the B&W chiaroscuro look of Frank Miller’s artwork, so much that Miller was given a co-director credit. I wanted to re-watch it before drawing something from it, but that movie wasn’t on streaming, so instead I watched the sequel. I’d seen it several years ago, now watched it on @primevideoin. The movie was not a success (unlike Part 1 which was hugely popular), but it’s actually pretty entertaining.I drew Eva Green as Ava Lord, the titular “dame to kill for”. I decided to try it as invert art, so took a screenshot of a frame from the movie, inverted it and then used that as a reference image. Posting the original as well as the inverted versions on both my accounts — @karthikabhiram and @dailymoviesketch.The drawing was done with @ns1pen #ns1pen and Gelly Roll pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#ballpointpen #ballpointpenart #ballpointpendrawing#penandink #handdrawn#sincity #adametokillfor#evagreen#invertart #flatlay #thisweekoninstagram #hellofrom Hyderabad India#google #pixel2xl #teampixel @googlepixel @googleindia#handsinframe @handsinframe @jj_mobilephotography #jj_mobilephotography#zuvamart #chroniclesofchai #nishtea #bolochai#510 / 14-Jan-20

Man of Steel (2013)Directed by Zack SnyderA half-inch square portrait of Henry Cavill as Superman, from Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel". This is an entry for two art challenges. First is for @mangopenciler's #drawwithmango 'Anything can Fly' theme, and the second is for the @inktober #inktober52 prompt for this week, 'Flight'. I was listening to Hans Zimmer's theme from the movie while drawing this, the track is also called "Flight". Why did I do this so small? I got a Pigma Micron 003 pen recently and wanted to try it out.I had actually drawn two things from the movie, I scanned the page so am posting both. #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #blackworknow #illustrationnow @blackworknow#manofsteel #dceu #superman #penandink #releasethesnydercut#509 / 4-Jan-20

Return of the Jedi (1983)Directed by Richard MarquandAnother drawing that I started last decade. Occasionally, and especially when a new Star Wars movie is coming out, I listen to this song called "Lapti Nek". It's very catchy, and was in the original version of "Return of the Jedi". For someone who has watched the original versions of the Star Wars movies on VHS in the 1990s, the changes made in the Special Edition versions stand out and not in a good way. One change that I particularly did not like was the replacement of this song "Lapti Nek" with an inferior (in my opinion) song, "Jedi Rocks". So, I keep going back to the original and now I drew Max Rebo. The Max Rebo Band and vocalist Sy Snootles sing the song (either version) at Jabba's palace in Huttese. The drawing was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpenart #handdrawn#starwars #returnofthejedi #maxrebo #laptinek#sysnootles#karthikabhiram #thisweekoninstagram#508 / 4-Jan-20

The Mandalorian (2019)Created by Jon Favreau𝙃𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙔 𝙉𝙀𝙒 𝙔𝙀𝘼𝙍 — Wishing everyone a very Happy 2020! For the first drawing of the year, here's Baby Yoda (actually, "The Child") from the Disney+ show "The Mandalorian". This was done with @staedtlermars ballpoint pens and Gelly Roll pen on a new A5 sketchbook. I actually started this drawing last night (31-Dec-19) at around 11:30 PM and finished it today — just so I could make that joke, "here's the drawing I started last decade". To whoever is reading this, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the support to my work, and I wish you happiness and success in 2020. #dailymoviesketch #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#karthikabhiram #babyyoda #thechild #themandalorian #babyyodamemes #happynewyear #happynewyear2020#507 / 1-Jan-20

Happy Death Day (2017)Directed by Christopher LandonI watched this movie a few weeks back on Netflix. I initially thought it would be one of those forgettable slasher movies, but as it turns out it's actually engaging and nicely made. Definitely a pleasant surprise.College student Tree (Jessica Rothe) is killed on her birthday, and is stuck in a time loop, forcing her to relive the day over and over, till she finds out who the killer is. It's an interesting premise and is well executed. I liked the touch of making the movie take more of a black comedy tone, which means you're not supposed to take it very seriously, and just enjoy yourself. The sequel "Happy Death Day 2U" is also good.I drew the Babyface killer from the movie. The drawing was done in a stippling style with a 0.1 Uni Pin fineliner on A6 sketchbook and scanned. The drawing is the size of a ₹2 coin. #dailymoviesketch #happydeathday #babyface #blackworknow #unipin #fineliner #stippling #dotworknow#506 / 29-Dec-19

Watchmen (2019)Created by Damon LindelofI finished watching "Watchmen" last week and what a fantastic show it was. I absolutely loved it. Such great storytelling and worldbuilding. I would highly recommend watching it, and to appreciate it fully, would advise reading the book first.Like the book, HBO has released a set of supplemental documents and files on a fictional "Peteypedia" website, which are supposed to be research documents by FBI agent Dale Petey. These give us additional information about the world. In the earlier post I mentioned that in this alternate 2019, there doesn't seem to be any use of computers and mobile phones like we have now. That's because those technologies were outlawed after the events of the book. Only now, they are resurfacing, and the FBI is starting to use this newfangled thing called electronic mail, here called el-mail. And the band @nineinchnails here is called "The Nine Inch Nails" and its lead singer @treznor is supposed to have mysteriously vanished years ago.I drew the weird character popularly known as "Lube Man" from Episode 4. The drawing was done with Bic multi colour ballpoint pen on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #illustrationnow #watchmen #lubeman #dalepetey #peteypedia@watchmen @hbo @damonlindelof @hotstarpremium @illustrationow#505 / 23-Dec-19
