[Drawings for @aninchaugust Day 2, 3, 4]Midsommar (2019)Directed by Ari AsterAfter a family tragedy, Dani (Florence Pugh), her boyfriend and other college mates go on a trip to Sweden, where they participate in a midsummer festival that soon takes a disturbing turn.I really liked the movie! Dare I say, I liked it more than the director's earlier "Hereditary"? It's not so much a scary horror movie, but it certainly creates an interesting atmosphere. The novelty is that almost the entire film is set in broad daylight. I loved the direction, visuals and sound design.I thought Florence Pugh was amazing in the movie and she portrayed the character's emotions so well (grief, being in a difficult relationship). For me she was also the best part of "Black Widow".The movie might not be for everyone though, some would get put off by the slow pace and certain scenes may seem comical if not taken in the right context. There is some explicit content (violence/blood, sex, nudity) in this meant to shock the viewer, which again might not be for everyone.I should watch "The Wicker Man" as well, which also has similar themes (people who find themselves in a fish-out-of-water situation involving a cult).I drew Florence Pugh from this movie for Day 4 of #aninchaugust (prompt: someone you love / someone who reminds you of love). Since the movie had themes of a difficult relationship, I picked this to draw (also I wanted to draw Florence Pugh and write about the movie!). This was done with pencil and ballpoint pen. The other two drawings are for Day 2 (a food or beverage that you like – onion samosa drawn with ballpoint pen and gelly roll based on one of my own photos) and Day 3 (something that's always on your home desk, which is office laptop Dell Latitude 3410, drawn with ballpoint pen). You can swipe to see scans.#aninchaugust #aninchaugust2021@florencepugh #florencepugh #ariaster #midsommar #samosa #laptop#ballpointpen #pencil #miniatureart@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#601 / 3-Aug-21

Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)Directed by George LucasIt's hard to believe we've already reached August in 2021! So @aninchaugust is here, a challenge that was started in 2018 by @tiny.sharma10 and @meghalika, where the goal is to create miniature artworks that fit into the space of an inch. I've participated in it in the past years and it's something I look forward to every year. They have come up with daily prompts for this year's challenge. While I don't think I'll be able to make a sketch for every day of the month, I'll see how many I'm able to do.The first prompt is to surprise everyone, so here is what I came up with…Last month I'd started a challenge myself to make art based on memes, and there is one meme that I wanted to draw, which is the 4-panel template featuring Padme Amidala (Natalie Portman) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) from "Star Wars Episode II". So, I did that, but in the space of an inch square. I was thinking I'll make four one inch squares for each panel, but then I thought let me do all the four panels in one inch square only. This is also sketch number 600, of my @dailymoviesketch movie drawing series! I started an art account in 2016 with movie related sketches, and I've been numbering the sketches since then. Last year I moved to posting all the sketches on my @karthikabhiram account only, and now since Instagram introduced a Collaboration feature, all movie sketches will be posted on both accounts. The drawing was done with 0.5mm mechanical pencil with 4B lead on A5 notebook from @themedschoolstudent.store. You can swipe to see a scan, couple of uses of it as a meme template (though it isn't as effective due to the very small size), and also a short timelapse. I actually keep moving the paper around while drawing, and peer closely into the paper often, so doing this type of timelapse was very uncomfortable and I stopped it.#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#aninchaugust #aninchaugust2021 #createwithkarthik#meme #memes #memesimade #padmeandanakin#starwars #starwarsmeme#miniatureart #pencil #pencildrawing #tinysharma#600 / 1-Aug-21

Universal Solider: Day of Reckoning (2012)Directed by John Hyams"Universal Solider" is a 1992 action movie that I haven't seen in a long time, and I was watching a video about it which mentioned the sequels. There are two made-for-TV sequels ("Universal Solider II: Brothers in Arms" and "Universal Solider III: Unfinished Business"), followed by a theatrical sequel called "Universal Solider: The Return". This was followed by "Universal Solider: Regeneration" and "Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning" which were made direct-to-video and ignored the TV and the first theatrical sequel.I have not watched any of those. However, I had heard good things about this one when it was released a few years back, and so I watched it (there is a version of it on @primevideoin but this appears to be a censored one, with a 105 min runtime as opposed to the complete 114 min). You can enjoy this one even if you haven't seen the other movies. This was noted for it's strong violence and darker tone, both of which I'm happy to say, the movie delivers on. It's played very seriously and does pack in some interesting ideas. It doesn't spend too much time on exposition, and curiously the Wikipedia article actually does explain the story pretty well, which you can read after watching the film. The movie stars Scott Adkins as John, a man who is assaulted and his family killed by Luc Deveraux (Jean-Claude Van Damme), one of the original UniSols (dead soliders reanimated as cyborgs). On recovering nine months later, with memory loss, he sets off to find Luc and to piece together past events. The movie has a horror vibe to it (with body horror/sci fi elements) and the action scenes are brutal and extremely well done. Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren from the original make appearances here though their screen time is limited. I drew Van Damme as Luc from the movie with his "Apocalypse Now" inspired look, this was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A5 notebook from @themedschoolstudent.store. The Matrix (1999)Directed by The Wachowskis“What if I told you… the line “What if I told you…” doesn't actually appear in the movie?”I’m trying out three different things with this artwork!First — this is an early entry for @tiny.sharma10 and @meghalika’s challenge @aninchaugust which is due to start on Sunday, but I thought I’lol do one now itself.Second — it’s also a meme based artwork, for my own art challenge this month, to create artwork based on memes. I haven’t been able to do as many works as I thought I would, but it’s fine I suppose.Third — @instagram has recently introduced a feature where two accounts can “collaborate”, where the same post would appear on both accounts and the engagement parameters would be shared. About a year ago, I moved to posting all my work on my @karthikabhiram account only. Previously, I used to put up my movie related sketches on my @dailymoviesketch art account, but then I thought it would be simpler for people to consume the content if they were on one account only. Going forward, I’ll make these art posts on both accounts. This is a drawing of Morpheus from “The Matrix”, which is an undisputed science fiction classic! This frame was used in several memes with the caption “What if I told you…”We’re getting a Part 4 hopefully this year, keeping fingers crossed for it. It’s in one square inch size and was done with 0.5mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 size notebook from @themedschoolstudent.store. You can swipe to see a scanned version.@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #createwithkarthik#aninchaugust #aninchaugust2021#pencil #pencildrawing #pencilart#miniatureart#thematrix #thematrixmemes #whatifitoldyou #memes #meme #memesimade #morpheus#598 / 29-Jul-21

iPhone, Pixel, DSLR — Yesterday, I put up a little game on Stories, where I had posted Stories from both my phones and asked people to identify which was posted from Android and which was from iPhone. The devices can be told apart because of the fonts. Also in captions, iPhone generates the curved quotes and apostrophes whereas on Android it’s the straight ones by default (“ is iPhone and " is Android).I thought it would be interesting to do another experiment, this time with photos. For still photos, both the Pixel and iPhone cameras are fantastic but each handles the same scene in different ways and has a different approach to portrait mode. So, here are a set of 6 photos, two shot with DSLR (Canon 5D Mark III, 50mm at f2, shot in JPG as I always do), two with iPhone, and two with Pixel 2 XL (phone photos were shot in Portrait Mode). Can you identify which is which? All the pictures had exactly the same edits applied in VSCO.This is not intended to be a scientific comparison and I also don’t mean to say that one is better than the other! All of these are terrific cameras and I enjoy using each one of them. The burger and fries were ordered through Swiggy from @marleysjoint (interesting name).#karthikabhiram#iphone12mini #pixel2xl #canon #5dmarkiii #50mm #50mmphotography#teampixel #capturedoncanon #shotoniphone#cameracomparison#vsco #vscohyderabad @instagram @apple @googlepixel @canonasia#hellofrom Hyderabad India #hellohyderabad

Masters of the Universe: Revelation Part 1 (2021)Created by Kevin Smith"Masters of the Universe: Revelation" from Netflix is a sequel series to the classic 1980s "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe". The show comprises two parts, each with 5 episodes. The first part was released yesterday and I watched it, and loved it.As a kid I used to watch the "He-Man" show and also bought the toys and comics. There was even a brand of chocolate called Fudgy which I used to buy just because they gave "He-Man" comics with it! So, I was excited for this show. The voice cast includes Luke Skywalker and The Joker (from "Batman" the Animated Series) himself, Mark Hamill, playing Skeletor.I won't be able to give any story details as it would be considered spoilery. But I was surprised at the direction the show took, with its story and the characters (they used so many characters from the original show). Certainly not for everyone but I liked it and I can't wait for Part 2.The animation details, action scenes, visuals were all well done. The music was epic (had a hint of "Conan the Barbarian" for me) but I missed the original series theme. The show is darker in tone. The font used for the end titles and the episode names is ITC Serif Gothic, like in the original Filmation show.Evil-Lyn in the show is voiced by "Game of Thrones" actor Lena Headey, and I drew her as the character. I haven't actually watched "Game of Thrones", but used a reference image from that show, for this drawing. The drawing was done with ballpoint pens on A6 sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scan of it.@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#mastersoftheuniverse #heman #mastersoftheuniverserevelation#evillyn #lenaheadey #motu #moremotu @masters @thatkevinsmith@iamlenaheadey#ballpointpen #ballpointpenart #ballpointpendrawing#597 / 24-Jul-21
