An entry for @mangopenciler2.0’s challenge #shootwithmango. I will also do sketches for the challenge but for now posting this set of photos. The theme for the challenge is to depict “home” — and for me, this bread toast with sauce and tea in the morning is a significant part of it, and has been so for years and years. Been a while also, since I posted a tea picture like this so here it is. #karthikabhiram #shotoniphone #tea #breakfast #zuvamart

RRR (2022)Directed by S S RajamouliI watched this highly anticipated movie yesterday! Here are my #NoSpoilers thoughts and a ballpoint pen sketch based on the movie.I loved the movie! This is not really a movie where one can give spoilers as such, but I've still avoided giving any story details.• I saw it at PVR Next Galleria Punjagutta, in the Telugu and 2D version (I usually prefer 2D over 3D) and in the show I watched, there were English subtitles. My viewing experience was a very good one, the only downside being the front row seats.• The visuals in the movie were amazing, I loved the cinematography (K K Senthil Kumar). Everything was so beautifully lit and composed. The production design and sets were also awesome, you could make out that all the money was on screen. There were so many shots with hundreds of people, it was truly epic. There were multiple big name VFX companies credited, and the effects were great and superior to what we have seen earlier (for example in Baahubali and Baahubali 2), especially the animal effects.• The story was relatively simple but the movie was always engaging, they introduced the inciting incident very early and developed it from there.• I loved the way they developed Ram Charan and NTR's characters and their friendship. I might be in the minority but I liked the first half better as it had more of this character stuff. The acting was excellent especially by the two leads, I really liked how things were exaggerated when they needed to be, yet nuanced.• The action scenes were very well done, with great creativity, wonderful choreography and stunts. The music and sound were great too.• The movie as a whole has several crowd pleasing unrealistic elements. In any other hands it would have come across as overblown and silly but here everything just works.• The movie reminded me of Drunken Master II and Once Upon a Time in China. Those of course are totally different movies and not related to RRR, but there are similar themes running through.• I thoroughly enjoyed RRR overall, it was a wonderful experience and I've added it to my Best Movies of 2022 list.#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #rrr#651 / 27-Mar-22

The Batman (2022)Directed by Matt ReevesA couple of days back, there was a deleted scene from “The Batman” that was released. Since the actual YouTube video is unlisted I’m assuming it might be part of the puzzles on the rataalada site.We knew about this scene some time back but it was a surprise that they put it online. It’s a very well made scene with the Batman talking to an ‘unnamed inmate’ at Arkham Asylum (that’s how the character is credited in the movie). This is Barry Keoghan as Joker, and the scene very much gives you “The Silence of the Lambs” vibes (Matt Reeves really did choose to be inspired by a lot of classics). While the scene is great, I think it was the right decision to cut it from the movie as I felt it would be out of place. You never get to see the Joker clearly in the clip, it’s all shot in close ups or out of focus, so I collaged few screenshots together and used that as a reference to draw this. This is done with ballpoint pen and Gelly Roll on A5 notebook and you can swipe to see a scan.#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #thebatman #deletedscene #joker #thejoker #batman #ballpointpen #ballpointpenart #ballpointpendrawing #artistsoninstagram #shotoniphone #650 / 25-Mar-22

Scream (2022)Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler GillettThis fifth entry in the "Scream" series was released theatrically in the US in January. Being a fan of the series, I wanted to watch it but it hadn't been released in India till now. Recently it was made available on @bmsstream and I rented it, and was happy to get to finally watch it. I loved the movie and thought it was a worthy addition to the series.25 years after the events of the first movie, a set of killings again take place in the town of Woodsboro, with the killer donning the Ghostface mask. The movie has a set of new characters and sees the return of some old ones. That description may sound bland but just like the other films in the series, it's a very entertaining slasher mystery, and will make you suspect multiple characters before the reveals. The story is engaging, the kills are brutal and violent, the production value and acting are good, and as is the norm, the movie is very self aware and makes commentary about movie tropes. This is the first film in the series not to be directed by Wes Craven as he passed away in 2015, and the reins now go to the directors of "Ready or Not", and you can see that a lot of care has been put into the film. All of the movies in this series, are self referential —• Scream — was a knowing self referential commentary about slasher movies while being one itself • Scream 2 — was a slasher sequel that commented on horror sequels• Scream 3 — referenced movie trilogies while itself being the last in a trilogy (at the time)• Scream 4 — referenced reboots / revivals of movies made several years after the original, while being one of those movies itself• Scream 5 — references "legacy sequels" that come decades after the first entry, while being one itselfI drew Ghostface from the movie, this was drawn with Ohuhu markers (I recently got a set and it's the first time I am trying alcohol markers). More pictures from yesterday’s Stand Up Comedy event at @cococafeindia. The first shot is me, @mangopenciler2.0 and @tiny.sharma10 attempting to do @rajamamidanna’s “ayy bakwas fellow” expression but I apparently could not keep a serious face. This picture was shot on @mangopenciler2.0’s new Pixel 6 Pro. The details it’s captured are great. The third slide, has three Pixel devices and was shot on iPhone (my Pixel 2 XL, my mom’s Pixel 2 and the aforementioned 6 Pro). So, that’s a #teampixel picture #shotoniphone! The three close up shots of the comedians were shot with my DSLR and all others with iPhone. #karthikabhiram #shotoniphone #teampixel #capturedoncanon #pixel2 #pixel2xl #pixel6pro #hellohyderabad #standupcomedy #standup #liveevents

It’s a Stand Up weekend for me — I watched the movie “Stand Up Rahul” last night, and today, attended a Stand Up Comedy show! @rajamamidanna, @killsakil and @tobermon were performing at Sainikpuri closer to home, so tickets were quickly booked. The show was great, the comics kept us entertained for two hours. First time visiting @cococafeindia, the place had a nice ambiance and a macaw called Coco (who seemed like he was enjoying the show as well). #karthikabhiram #shotoniphone #standupcomedy #standup

𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐌𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 — I was discussing with @whojay_ recently on some nostalgic movie related stuff and the topic of audio cassettes came up.In the early 1990s as a kid (must be 1990 or 1991), I had this soundtrack cassette of the 1989 "Batman" movie, and used to listen to these songs a lot. Later, I got the videotape of the movie too. Back then, when comic book movies were rare, seeing a big screen adaptation was something special.Tim Burton's "Batman" movie was a huge box office hit, it was a dark and brooding take on the character, while still being very entertaining! The theme music by Danny Elfman was unforgettable and the visuals were terrific, and Jack Nicholson as the Joker actually overshadowed Michael Keaton as Bruce / Batman.Looking forward to Keaton reprising this role in the upcoming "Flash" movie (it's delayed to 2023 I guess), and since Matt Reeves's movie is in recent memory, it seemed apt to post this now. I took out the cassette and shot some photos. For the longest time (I suppose, from 1991 till the mid 1990s), I remember the price of these tapes being Rs 45. Magnasound was one of the popular companies that used to release music in India. The first shot is with camera and 85mm lens, others are with iPhone and the last set of pictures are from July 2010 which I'd posted on Facebook. These were taken with a laptop webcam and edited in Picasa (remember that?)!#canon #5dmarkiii #85mm #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #flatlay #nostalgia#batman #thebatman #soundtrack #audiocassette #90snostalgia
