M3GAN (2023)Directed by Gerard JohnstoneWatched this movie on Monday night and enjoyed it greatly! After 11 year old Cady's parents are killed in a car accident, she goes to stay with her aunt Gemma who works for a tech company, and is introduced to M3GAN, an android companion developed by Gemma, who'll do anything for her. The movie had a good balance of the 'tech run amok' thriller elements, it had a lot of fun, and a surprising amount of nuance. The lead performances by Violet McGraw as Cady and Allison Williams as Gemma were great, and the execution of the droid was very effective using multiple techniques (actors in costume, CG, animatronics). The movie is written by @akelacooper and produced by creepypuppet (who also contributes to Story), while this is not as bonkers like "Malignant", it's still a subtly different take on the subject. A sequel has just been announced, for 2025.I don't know why this has an A rating here as it's quite tame and actually was edited down for a PG-13 rating in the US, apparently we may get to see the R rated extended cut with more kills later on. That would be good indeed. Watched "Avatar: The Way of Water" for the second time yesterday at @prasadsmultiplx — at the recently renovated Large Screen, and the experience was great! This Screen 6 or Large Screen was once an IMAX venue, where true film based IMAX screenings used to happen, till 2015. For the years after that, it was simply called Large Screen, and I usually didn't prefer to watch movies there because though the dimensions of the image were larger, that came at the cost of a dimmer image, especially for 3D (which I don't prefer in general). For the release of the "Avatar" sequel they have renovated the projection system (the glasses said Barco Laser 3D) and for a really unique experience, what better movie to watch than this — so I booked here for myself and parents. As mentioned it was a great experience, the image was bright and sharp, and because of the physically huge Screen dimensions, it was a more immersive experience. I could be wrong but I think the aspect ratio here was 1.9:1 as opposed to the 2.39:1 which I saw earlier. Also, here I could observe the varying frame rates (some scenes seemed to be in higher frame rate and others in the usual 24 fps) which some YouTubers talked about. So, definitely one venue to watch out for now! They are calling it PCX (Prasad's Cinematic Experience), and that's how it's mentioned on @bookmyshowin. ️ SCAM ALERT 2 ️ • This is another common scam that has been going around of late, where a fake account is created with the profile picture of another person, and the fake account starts messaging friends and followers, asking for money. (The actual account hasn't been compromised here.)The fake account usually will have 0 posts, would have just been created a short time before, will have considerably smaller number of followers / following, and the account name will be very similar to the actual one (with maybe a dot or an underscore or two added).In the past week alone, I've seen three people I'm following, put up stories mentioning that someone has created fake accounts like this (a few weeks back someone created a fake account with my dad's profile picture too). The correct thing to do is to ignore and report those accounts.When a duplicate account pretending to be @sanjayreddy144 started following me, I knew what was about to happen, I informed Sanjay about it, and took the opportunity to message the scammer proactively. The moment the scammer mentioned PhonePe / Google Pay, I decided to ask the scammer to transfer money to me instead of the other way around 😀 The conversation ended here (and the fake account is no longer active) so I couldn't take it forward where I wanted to make a group chat with me, the scammer and Sanjay (that should have been fun to see).
