️ SCAM ALERT 2 ️ • This is another common scam that has been going around of late, where a fake account is created with the profile picture of another person, and the fake account starts messaging friends and followers, asking for money. (The actual account hasn't been compromised here.)The fake account usually will have 0 posts, would have just been created a short time before, will have considerably smaller number of followers / following, and the account name will be very similar to the actual one (with maybe a dot or an underscore or two added).In the past week alone, I've seen three people I'm following, put up stories mentioning that someone has created fake accounts like this (a few weeks back someone created a fake account with my dad's profile picture too). The correct thing to do is to ignore and report those accounts.When a duplicate account pretending to be @sanjayreddy144 started following me, I knew what was about to happen, I informed Sanjay about it, and took the opportunity to message the scammer proactively. The moment the scammer mentioned PhonePe / Google Pay, I decided to ask the scammer to transfer money to me instead of the other way around 😀 The conversation ended here (and the fake account is no longer active) so I couldn't take it forward where I wanted to make a group chat with me, the scammer and Sanjay (that should have been fun to see).
