Yearly Roundup • These slides are from three different places. First is from the site TopNine.co, you don't have to download anything or login, and can generate this grid just with your Instagram handle. The next set of slides are by @shop.wishlink, you'll have to login to Facebook for this and it'll generate these Yearly Summary metrics. The last three slides are from Instagram itself, all content type sorted by Reach, and then only Posts sorted by Reach and Likes. I wish these would be higher, but, it is what it is. Microwave Popcorn × AI • I have been playing around with AI image generation using the Playground AI site of late. Sometimes it can take multiple (hundreds?) of iterations and variations in prompts to get an image close to what you want. It's often not as simple as typing in a few words and magically getting a finished image, when looking at AI artworks we often are only seeing the best of what was generated and not all the failed attempts. I thought this concept went well with this trend of using this "Microwave Popcorn" song so here's my entry. Also: one fact I learned recently — these text to image tools weren't intended to create art, that's a side effect — they were created as part of ongoing research to build AGI (Artifical General Intelligence), where recognition of real world objects is one of the requirements. AI Generated • Lost Videotapes and Merry Christmas! • More AI generated images using the Playground AI site, using Stable Diffusion. The theme here was 1970s to 1990s videotape box art for grindhouse-type X rated horror or action movies. Because of the square shape these look more like laserdisc art or album covers but they are still very interesting. The first one is supposed to be a Christmas themed movie. Using these AI tools is not as easy as it is made out to be. I guess with a paid subscription to Midjourney, one can generate more realistic images. However with the free versions of these tools, one has to generate potentially hundreds of images to get a few good ones, and I actually did. AI Generated • Cats drinking Tea • I came across this website called PlaygroundAI (through a YouTube video on the channel No Text to Speech), which allows you to generate images from text prompts. You can configure it to use Stable Diffusion or DALL-E to generate these images and type in prompts and alter the settings. This is a set of images I made just as an experiment. The concept was cat drinking tea, I couldn't get it to generate just one cat and one tea cup however.
