Extraction (2020)Directed by Sam HargraveAs I'd posted on Stories on my @karthikabhiram account, it has been a while since we have been excited for a movie. I'm sure movie fans miss this feeling as we've not had a major release to look forward to in some time. Therefore, "Extraction" was quite welcome, and I watched it the day it was released on Netflix. It stars Chris Hemsworth as mercenary Tyler Rake, who has to go to Dhaka to extract Ovi Mahajan (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) and bring him back to Mumbai. Ovi is the son of Drug Lord Ovi Sr (Pankaj Tripathi) and has been kidnapped by Ovi Sr's rival, Bangladeshi Drug Lord Amir (Priyanshu Panyuli). Randeep Hooda is Saju, also after the boy.The movie is produced by @therussobrothers and scripted by Joe Russo. Director Hargrave worked as Stunt Coordinator for many of the Russo's MCU films. He was the stunt double for Captain America in "Avengers: Endgame" as well. Like the "John Wick" movies, when you have a director from a Stunts background, it obviously will show in the action scenes, and "Extraction" absolutely did not disappoint — the movie is packed full of superbly executed action scenes. The action is fast and brutal, they did not tone down the violence, they experimented with multiple types of action — gunfights, close combat, car chase etc. There's a brilliant long take sequence that mixes all of these as well. The acting from the leads was all very good, there were some nice emotional moments as well. The tone of the movie was gritty and serious (perhaps, a bit too serious, in that it wasn't that much "fun"). In some ways it reminded me of the Hong Kong heroic bloodshed movies and oldschool action films. One criticism I had was that the character development was lacking somewhat (Pankaj Tripathi, the villain, David Harbour, the General — they get barely any backstory). But personally, I didn't mind this and the rather straightforward storyline, since the movie was always engaging, and importantly, delivered on the action. The cinematography was good, music was kind of generic but served the purpose.Overall, definitely recommended! I thought it was very good! (More in comments…) #531 / 25-Apr-20

The Avengers (2012)Directed by Joss Whedon “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” Third drawing for #sixfanarts, one of the suggestions I got was Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, and I chose to draw her from “The Avengers” (I liked her look the best here — here and probably the blond short hair look in “Avengers: Infinity War”). This is from the scene in the movie where Nat and Clint are fighting the Chitauri and she says it’s just like Budapest, and Clint says that the both of them remember Budapest very differently.Hope we will see what happened in Budapest in the upcoming “Black Widow” movie, in November. (Budapest was one of the establishing shots seen in the trailer.) Today I came Live on @instagram (something that I have not done during this Lockdown period at all), and drew this. The Live was for about 50 minutes, thanks to everyone who joined, hope it wasn’t too boring or draggy! You can still see the video till around 8 PM tomorrow (19-Apr-20) on Stories on my @karthikabhiram account. I plan to upload the video on IGTV as well. The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on an A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#pencildrawing #pencil#blackwidow #natasharomanoff #scarlettjohannson#530 / 18-Apr-20

The Mandalorian (2019)Created by Jon FavreauSecond drawing for #sixfanarts challenge! Now that Disney+ is available in India, one can watch the excellent show "The Mandalorian". While people refer to this character as Baby Yoda, it's not actually the same character, since the events of "The Mandalorian" take place after the events of "Return of the Jedi". So it's a child of the same species as Yoda, and we will probably see more about the Child itself in Season 2.The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#babyyoda #themandalorian @disneyplushotstar #disneyplus#starwars #starwarsmemes #memes #babyyodamemes #thisistheway#pencildrawing #pencil#529 / 14-Apr-20

The Lion King (1994)Directed by Roger Allers and Rob MinkoffFirst artwork for #sixfanarts challenge. I had posted a Story a little while ago asking for suggestions of characters to make fanart of. Many suggestions came (thanks to everyone) and I've picked six out of those. Timon and Pumbaa from "The Lion King" was a suggestion, I was initially planning to draw Timon only but then I decided to do both of them. This is from the beginning of the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" scene in the movie. Oh, and to me, "The Lion King" is the 1994 movie only. As much as I respect Jon Favreau (he did make the first MCU movie after all!) and as much as a fantastic technical achievement the 2019 remake is, I feel the original one is way better because all the characters have so much 'life' and 'character' to them, if you get what I mean! The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#pencildrawing #pencil#thelionking #pumbaa #timon#disneyplus @disneyplushotstarvip#528 / 11-Apr-20

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991)Directed by Michael PressmanA miniature ballpoint pen drawing of the TMNT. I actually was thinking of doing this for the 4 years of @dailymoviesketch (being that there are four of the Turtles). But I probably did this too small and thought I'd do something better, hence the Iron Man pencil drawing yesterday.I completed this one as well and am posting it now. The height is just a little over half an inch (yes, that small, hence I wasn't able to properly get the details of the eyes) and width is about 2 inches. It's sort of like @tiny.sharma10's #aninchaugust2019 sketches where she drew multiple characters. This was done with @staedtler multi colour ballpoint pens on A6 @brustro_official sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#tmnt #teenagemutantninjaturtles#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#527 / 4-Apr-20

[FOUR YEARS OF @DAILYMOVIESKETCH]Avengers: Endgame (2019)Directed by Anthony and Joe RussoMy art account turns 4 today! Happy to hit this milestone and big thanks to everyone who follows my work for all the support! As a celebration of this I drew @robertdowneyjr from the iconic end of "Avengers: Endgame". I wanted to draw him doing the snap for sketch number 500, but since it's his birthday today (and since "Endgame" is the fourth Avengers movie), it seemed appropriate for the occasion! The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil and @prismacolor pencils on an A5 @cansonpaper_northamerica sketchpad and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#avengers #avengersendgame #robertdowneyjr #tonystark #ironman#pencildrawing #pencil #artistsoninstagram#526 / 4-Apr-20

Trance (2020)Directed by Anwar RasheedThere was quite a bit of buzz about "Trance" around its release and it had a very stylish trailer too. Those who saw it on release gave good feedback about it, and I wanted to watch it as well. Fortunately, it recently came out on @primevideoin and I watched it yesterday. Fahadh Faasil plays Viju Prasad at the start of the movie – a motivational speaker working in Kanyakumari and struggling to make ends meet. After certain events in his life that make him move to Mumbai, he is recruited by the powerful Solomon (Gautham Menon) and Isaac (Chemban Jose), and 'reinvented' as Pastor Joshua Carlton – an evangelist who they hope will make them millions. The movie has an engaging (possibly controversial?) story and at the centre of it all is an amazing performance by Fahadh. The other actors are good too, and the whole movie has a nice stylised look. I liked the music as well. Perhaps it was a bit longer than it should have been but that's a minor criticism. I enjoyed it overall and would recommend it for sure.I drew Fahadh as the pastor from the movie, the drawing was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A6 @brustro_official sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpenart#trance #malayalam #fahadhfaasil @anwar_rasheedofficial @amalneerad_official @trance_movie#525 / 3-Apr-20

Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991)Directed by Peter HewittA few days ago, I watched both the Bill & Ted movies — "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989) and this sequel. Both of them are fun movies with Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves in the title high school student roles. In the first movie, they must pass their history report and end up travelling through time in a phone booth (hmm, where have we seen that before), interacting with famous historical personalities. In the second movie, evil duplicates of Bill & Ted show up and our heroes must deal with them. The first movie in particular had a fun and very likeable vibe to it. It had some clever moments and was entertaining. The second film was a bit all over the place I felt, but there was no shortage of ideas. I liked the first one better but this was also good. Waiting for "Bill & Ted Face the Music" this year!I drew William Sadler as the Grim Reaper from this movie, the drawing was done with @ns1pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.By the way, this movie was shown many times on STAR Movies back in the early and mid 1990s. So I'm still tagging it for @mangopenciler's #drawwithmango #90snostalgia though that got over in March.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#stayhome #quarantineandchill#billandted #ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#ballpointpenart #ns1pen @nicolasvsanchez#artistsoninstagram#524 / 1-Apr-20
