Total Recall (1990)Directed by Paul Verhoeven “Get Ready for a Surprise!” I was looking at some of these “folding-unfolding” illustrations recently, particularly one of Venom by @pentasticarts, and I thought I would try it out myself. The movie and scene that came to mind is where Quaid (Schwarzenegger) disguises himself as a woman, but the mask malfunctions leading to an action scene. The Oscar Winning visual and practical effects in this movie are great, and I've long mentioned that this is a terrific overall movie. I drew the woman (played by Priscilla Allen) and Schwarzenegger (in that shot, it's the head built by Rob Bottin). I messed up the Arnold drawing as it’s not in the centre of the frame as I would have liked it to be. This was drawn with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil and @prismacolor pencils on @cansonpaper_northamerica sketchbook. I will post a scan of this as well (that will be a carousel post, will post detail shots of the woman as well as Quaid). I will see if I’m able to nudge Schwarzenegger a bit to get it centred when I scan the piece!#google #pixel2xl #DailyMovieSketch#teampixel #totalrecall#schwarzenegger #pencilart #pencil #foldingart #karthikabhiram#401 / 13-Dec-18

[400 SKETCHES ON @DAILYMOVIESKETCH!] Avengers: Endgame (2019)Directed by Joe and Anthony RussoSo it's finally here!In the end of November last year, the trailer for "Avengers: Infinity War" was released, and the movie itself came out in April. Therefore, fans were expecting the trailer for the fourth Avengers film to be released at around the same time. The Russos confirmed that the trailer would be released before the end of the year, and we got the "Captain Marvel" trailer on Monday. There were rumours that the "Avengers 4" trailer would come out on Wednesday, but then for respect for the funeral of G W Bush Sr, the release was postponed to Friday. Morning US Time meant evening India Time – I was watching out for it from 6 PM. We would finally see footage from the new film, and we would also find out its name (rumours were that the film would be called "Avengers: Endgame" or "Avengers: Annihilation"). At 6:30 PM India Time, there was a post on the Russo Brothers' Instagram, with a one-minute version of the trailer, and they shared a link on Twitter for the full trailer. A little while later, 1080p HD versions showed up on YouTube, and the official poster was also revealed. What a trailer! I loved it, it effectively built up anticipation for the movie without revealing any story details. The Russos' post was also an affectionate tribute to fans who waited for months, for this! And the movie's title was revealed to be "Avengers: Endgame". Plus, it's release date was pushed a week earlier! It's now April 26.The timing of the trailer release is also fortunate, as this is my 400th drawing on this page! Thanks to all who've supported and encouraged me, and made this milestone a special one.I drew Tony Stark from the trailer, the drawing was done with Prismacolor pencils, 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil, and white gel pen on Canson paper, and scanned.#400 / 7-Dec-18#dailymoviesketch #avengers4 #avengersendgame #avengers4trailer #whereistheavengers4trailer #avengersendgametrailer #robertdowneyjr #tonystark #ironman #marvel

#ThrowbackThursday A shot of some of my @dailymoviesketch drawings, before they were given for framing. This was in preparation for May 2017's event The ArtConf, where @pparulverma and I exhibited our artworks. That's an event I'll always fondly remember, being the first Art Exhibition. That was held at @collabhouse.The reason I posted this picture today is that the coming Sunday, there is going to be another event where I'll be exhibiting my artworks — this is The Sunday Al Fresco, at @kafickohyd. This is an event for @zomatogold members. There will be an art exhibition, where my art will be exhibited along with the works of @markedupthoughts @the_onyxmethod @tejo_oo and @mehak.narula. The thing about these events is that you'll get to see the actual art, which is a different experience than watching it on your phone screens. Do stop by and say Hi to us. There are going to be board games as well that day — Sunday 9-Dec-18, from 1 PM to 4 PM. The price for a ticket is INR 400 (which covers the event itself and a meal) and Zomato Gold members can purchase tickets for those who don't have that subscription. The link to purchase tickets is in my stories on @karthikabhiram and in the bio here. I'm looking forward to it!#vsco #canon #5dmarkiii #DAILYMOVIESKETCH

Captain Marvel (2019)Directed by Anna Boden and Ryan FleckSo today Marvel released the second trailer for “Captain Marvel”, the next MCU movie coming out in 2019. Of course the trailer we are really waiting for, is that for “Avengers 4”, which is rumoured to drop tomorrow (Wednesday, 5-Dec-18). Let's see if it actually comes out!Anyway, we are sure to get the Avengers trailer by the end of this month, which is what the Russo Brothers said. And apparently the Captain Marvel trailer was released first, because they wanted to introduce audiences to her character more, before featuring her in Avengers 4.This trailer was good and provided more story details about Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. Brie Larson plays her and she is supposed to be the most powerful hero in the MCU. I drew her from one shot in the trailer where she shows off her powers. The drawing was done with Prismacolor pencils and 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil, and a bit of white gel pen on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#DAILYMOVIESKETCH #captainmarvel #brielarson #caroldanvers #avengers #avengers4 #avengers4trailer #whereistheavengers4trailer#kree #skrull#399 / 4-Dec-18

2.0 (2018)Directed by Shankar SThe highly anticipated sequel to 2010's "Enthiran / Robot" was released some days back and I saw it this weekend in 3D. When I'd seen the original years ago, I remember liking the first two thirds as it had more story content, and as the film progressed, it just became a showcase of dazzling visual effects and dispensed with all connections to reality. The sequel is more of the same.It opens with all the mobile phones in Chennai being yanked away by a mysterious force, that coalesce into a huge bird, which starts attacking people. Dr Vaseegaran (Rajnikanth) proposes bringing back his creation, the dismantled robot Chitti, to fight whoever is behind it. The antagonist is Pakshi Rajan (Akshay Kumar), whose backstory is revealed later in the film explaining the how and why behind the disappearing phones and attacks. The movie (like the first one) is painted in very broad strokes, meaning that everything seems simplified to a childish or a cartoonish level, and you just have to accept what's going on without questioning it too much. For example you should not ask how a dismantled Chitti just can be put together and become completely operational just overnight. I actually enjoyed the first two thirds of the movie, it was very visually inventive and very entertaining. The acting was good from Rajnikanth (playing the scientist and multiple versions of Chitti), the villain and even Amy Jackson as Nila. But by the time the last act came along, I felt it was just overindulgent and out of control visual effects, with hundreds of robots all over the screen (how were they all fabricated and built?). This dampened my enjoyment of the film as a whole. One can't deny that the technical aspects of the film are very accomplished, and the 3D is well done. You have a lot of depth in many scenes and the visuals are good. The film is very creative too. Overall I think it's definitely worth watching but you should accept it for what it is.I drew Chitti (1.0) from the movie, it was done with Bic ballpoint pen and scanned.#2point0 #2point0movie #rajnikanth #chitti #pakshirajan #akshaykumar#DAILYMOVIESKETCH #ballpointpen#398 / 3-Dec-18

Daredevil (2015-18)Created by Drew GoddardI had asked for suggestions on people to draw for @dailymoviesketch, this one comes from Shrusti @shrusti_mohanty @mohanty.shrusti.She suggested Elektra from Marvel's Daredevil Season 2. I thought it was a nice suggestion! I love the show, and was sad that Netflix has cancelled it (especially following a stellar third season). Anyway, it's business decisions I guess, since Disney is coming up with their own network and hence would want these properties to move away from Netflix.About Elektra herself, I've said this before, I somehow felt the show dragged during the scenes with her and Daredevil. Especially when there was such a compelling character in Frank Castle / The Punisher, the Elektra and The Hand storyline paled in comparison.I drew Elodie Yung as Elektra, this sketch was done with Bic black and Reynolds red ballpoint pen on Brustro A6 sketchbook and scanned.#daredevil #elektra #elodieyung #marvel #netflix#DAILYMOVIESKETCH #ballpointpen#ballpoint #pen #ink #biro #dibujo#397 / 30-Nov-18

Pulp Fiction (1995)Directed by Quentin TarantinoSo there's Papa Tomato, Momma Tomato and Baby Tomato walking along the street. Baby Tomato starts lagging behind, and Papa Tomato starts getting really angry. So, he turns around and squishes Baby Tomato and says, 'Ketchup.' I had a poll here yesterday asking for suggestions on female characters to draw. @shyam792 suggested Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction and I thought that was a great suggestion (the very first #DailyMovieSketch drawing was of Uma Thurman from this movie, as it's one of my all time favourite movies). Here's Uma as Mia Wallace from the scene where she tells Vincent Vega her Fox Force Five joke. The drawing was done with Bic black and Reynolds red ballpoint pen on Brustro A6 sketchbook and scanned.#pulpfiction #umathurman #miawallace #foxforcefive #puns #ketchup #ballpointpen#396 / 30-Nov-18

A Serbian Film (Srpski Film) (2010)Directed by Srđan SpasojevićThis is one of those notorious movies you'll see on lists of disturbing or difficult to watch films. Because of its content it was banned in several countries or only released in a cut version. The movie is about Milos (Srđan Todorović), a retired porn star who is now struggling to make ends meet and provide for his wife and son. He is contacted by a mysterious filmmaker named Vukmir (Sergej Trifunović), who is willing to pay him a huge sum of money to participate in a film that he is making for very specialised clients. Milos reluctantly accepts, and soon finds himself part of increasingly disturbing and sinister situations. The filmmakers here seem to be trying to top themselves with each scene in disturbing the audience, and I think they succeed. I would suggest not looking at this movie as a commentary on the pornography industry or anything more profound, just watch it as a taut thriller, and you will appreciate it more. It's certainly well made and quite creepy, though at times you will feel guilty about what you are watching. And if you're sensitive in the slightest bit about watching sexual violence on screen, this movie is not for you. The performances are good, and I especially liked the music which adds to the creep factor.I'd actually watched the movie a few years before and now it was mentioned in some article I was reading, so I re-watched it (you can find it online). I drew Vukmir from the movie, the drawing was done with an Artline 0.1mm pen, Pigma Micron 0.8mm pen, white gel pen on Brustro A6 sketchbook and scanned.#DAILYMOVIESKETCH #aserbianfilm #srpskifilm #pen #ink#395 / 28-Nov-18

The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)Directed by Fede AlvarezI was looking forward to this movie after watching the slick trailer, and got to see it yesterday. The film is a follow up to David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", itself an adaptation of the first book in Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy. Apparently the studio wanted to reboot the series so this is based on David Lagercrantz's book and has a new director and cast. The story has Lisbeth (Claire Foy) being contacted to steal a piece of software that will allow one to have access to any nuclear weapon across the world. She goes through with it but is attacked only to have it stolen from her by a mysterious syndicate, and she has to get it back. The movie is different from Fincher's take, much more accessible and toned down. With four seconds cut, a couple of bits blurred and few swear words muted, it has a U/A rating in India (a PG-13 equivalent). Lisbeth and the tech the way it's portrayed here seem to have superpowers and some parts require you to stretch belief. Also, the plot is quite forgettable I thought, a standard people after a MacGuffin type story. That's not to say it's not entertaining, however — it's a real credit to director Fede Alvarez who keeps everything moving, and engages your interest. He also managed to achieve a very polished look to the movie on less than half the budget of the original (I checked Wikipedia). Claire Foy also is great as Lisbeth Salander. I loved the cinematography and music too. Overall, would recommend. There's a lot of Sony product placement in the movie, Lisbeth has shifted from Apple to Android and Sony gear here. This is a quick sketch of Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, it was done with an Artline 0.1mm pen and a red gel pen, on Brustro A6 sketchbook and scanned.#thegirlinthespidersweb #dragontattoo#lisbethsalander #clairefoy#DAILYMOVIESKETCH#394 / 26-Nov-18

Taxiwaala (2018)Directed by Rahul SankrityanSaw two movies this weekend, this one at Prasad's Screen 4 (the one with Dolby Atmos) and "The Girl in the Spider's Web" at INOX GVK One. Did sketches of both — will post the other one here too, today. "Taxiwaala" stars Vijay Deverakonda as Shiva, a man who after trying out different jobs decides to become a cab driver. Helped by his friends Babai and Hollywood, he buys a vintage car and restores it, and for a time all seems to be going well in his new job, but soon, some mysterious things start happening around this car, and he suspects it may be haunted. The best thing I can say about this movie is that it's very easy to watch — entertaining and fun, a nice blend of comedy and horror. The 2.5 hour runtime went by quickly. The filmmakers have tried to create a stylish character in the Taxiwaala — with the jacket and glove (I can just imagine this being a character out of a 1970s or 1980s cult Hollywood B movie — the "Driver"), which Vijay pulls off really well. I loved the music by Jakes Bejoy too. There are some aggressive guitar bits, some John Carpenter-esque synth cues in the score, and the songs are good too. The movie has a slick, polished look, with nice cinematography and lighting (by Sujith Sarang) — loved the set design emphasizing neon tones. The opening titles are also nicely done.A criticism that I had, was that the explanation of the haunting could have been cut down, I think it didn't need to be dealt with in detail. The female lead also didn't have much to do at all, and didn't make any difference to the plot. Some of the comedy scenes and even the scares felt kind of predictable and routine. Nevertheless, I had a good time watching the movie and would recommend it.I drew Vijay Deverakonda from the movie, the drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on a small sketchbook and scanned.#DailyMovieSketch #Taxiwaala #Taxiwala #VijayDeverakonda #pencilart#393 / 25-Nov-18
