Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019)Directed by Rob LettermanI watched "Pokémon Detective Pikachu" on @primevideoin some days ago. I have no familiarity with the Pokémon franchise but I was told that was not necessary to enjoy the movie, so I watched it and thought it was good. The story has Tim (Justice Smith) going to Ryme City (where humans and Pokémon live together), when he gets the news that his father Harry has mysteriously disappeared, thought to be dead. Detective Pikachu (performed by Ryan Reynolds), once Harry's partner, now with amnesia, teams up with him to get to the bottom of the mystery. The movie has a colourful, cinematic look (it was shot on 35mm film) and the CGI is well done. The best part of the movie to me was Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu, his voice and the animation made the character very likeable. The storyline has its twists but ultimately I thought it was nothing new and some of the big reveals were very predictable. It was very easy to watch though, and enjoyable. I thought this was about as good as (or maybe slightly better than) "Sonic the Hedgehog", another example of a CGI creature paired with a human in an adventure, adapted from other media. I drew Detective Pikachu from the movie, specifically this frame with his deerstalker cap and magnifying glass. The drawing was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A5 paper and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpenart#pokemon #pokemondetectivepikachu #detectivepikachu #pikachu#533 / 14-May-20

Birthday drawing! This year, on my birthday (15 May) I decided to re-watch a movie that's very close to my heart — the 1985 Arnold Schwarzenegger action classic "Commando". As a kid I watched this dozens of times (I guess this is one of those action movies which a lot of us would have grown up with, as kids, though we were probably too young for it), and loved it, it's not Schwarzenegger's best movie but certainly one of his most entertaining ones, thanks to scripter Steven E deSouza's inclusion of a lot of one liners. The movie will put a big grin on your face throughout. I drew @schwarzenegger as John Matrix from the movie, it's also one of the suggestions I got for #sixfanarts. I'm posting this on both my @karthikabhiram and @dailymoviesketch accounts, I'll post a scan and review on @dailymoviesketch soon. #pixel2xl #teampixel #karthikabhiram

Inspired by @sean_kitt's Live sessions where he has drawn people I also thought to draw quick sketches. I thought of this meme template (with the first three panels being from "Avengers: Endgame" and the last one being from the elevator fight scene in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier"), since it has multiple faces and things to draw. I did two attempts, one with ballpoint pen in 30-40 min, and the other one in pencil which took 50 min. I think the results with pencil are better. I also plan to do a Live session like him where I'll draw people (this will be on my @karthikabhiram account). I'm not giving these a sketch number, posting them here though since they're movie related. #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #memes #memesimade #memetemplates #captainamerica

𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐕𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎 — #ArtvsArtist is trending again, so here is a collage for #ArtvsArtist2020. Usually I make multiple collages using only pictures, but this time I thought I'll incorporate video (the latest one I made), and make only one collage for both my @karthikabhiram and @dailymoviesketch accounts, showing my work from both. Taking this opportunity to thank everyone for following and supporting my work! Do follow both accounts if you aren't doing that already — I'm more active on @karthikabhiram (primary account) where I post photos and sketches, and Stories, and @dailymoviesketch is exclusively for my movie related artworks. #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch

My action scene, the Noir version — inspired by the stunt professionals / Hollywood actresses version of the #dontrushchallenge involving stunts and fights, I thought I'd try my hand at it. Yes, this is not a sketch but since it's movie related and I made it, I'm posting it here. This is the B&W version, you can watch the colour version on my @karthikabhiram account, and also see a few more details about it.

Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)Directed by George Lucas𝙃𝘼𝙋𝙋𝙔 𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍 𝙒𝘼𝙍𝙎 𝘿𝘼𝙔 — May 4 is celebrated as Star Wars Day because #maythe4thbewithyou sounds like the line "May the Force Be With You". I have been a fan of the original trilogy of films (1977's "Episode IV: A New Hope", 1980's "Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" and 1983's "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi", the last one probably being my favourite) for a long time. I first properly saw the original versions on VHS in 1994 or 1995 I guess, and loved the movies. In 1997 when George Lucas released the Special Edition versions, I got the chance to watch Episodes IV, V and VI in the theatre. Though some of the changes they made were not to one's liking (and little did we know back then, that we won't ever officially get to see the original versions again), it was still such an amazing experience watching them on the big screen. No wonder they are considered classics. I didn't re-watch the prequel trilogy (1999-2005) after seeing them in the theatre, and in the last five years we have got to see the new Star Wars movies, of which I really liked Episode VII. Over the years the franchise has grown so much, but the original three Episodes will always be very dear to me. The last time I made a Star Wars drawing on May 4 was in 2016, so today I thought I'll do a sketch. I realised I never drew Darth Vader, so did a drawing of him. The drawing was done with Bic ballpoint pen and scanned. It's about 1.5 inch square in size. See the post on my @karthikabhiram account, to see the audio tapes I had bought in 1997 or 1998, with the Episode IV soundtrack. #dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram #starwars #starwarsday #maytheforcebewithyou#532 /4-May-20

Extraction (2020)Directed by Sam HargraveAs I'd posted on Stories on my @karthikabhiram account, it has been a while since we have been excited for a movie. I'm sure movie fans miss this feeling as we've not had a major release to look forward to in some time. Therefore, "Extraction" was quite welcome, and I watched it the day it was released on Netflix. It stars Chris Hemsworth as mercenary Tyler Rake, who has to go to Dhaka to extract Ovi Mahajan (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) and bring him back to Mumbai. Ovi is the son of Drug Lord Ovi Sr (Pankaj Tripathi) and has been kidnapped by Ovi Sr's rival, Bangladeshi Drug Lord Amir (Priyanshu Panyuli). Randeep Hooda is Saju, also after the boy.The movie is produced by @therussobrothers and scripted by Joe Russo. Director Hargrave worked as Stunt Coordinator for many of the Russo's MCU films. He was the stunt double for Captain America in "Avengers: Endgame" as well. Like the "John Wick" movies, when you have a director from a Stunts background, it obviously will show in the action scenes, and "Extraction" absolutely did not disappoint — the movie is packed full of superbly executed action scenes. The action is fast and brutal, they did not tone down the violence, they experimented with multiple types of action — gunfights, close combat, car chase etc. There's a brilliant long take sequence that mixes all of these as well. The acting from the leads was all very good, there were some nice emotional moments as well. The tone of the movie was gritty and serious (perhaps, a bit too serious, in that it wasn't that much "fun"). In some ways it reminded me of the Hong Kong heroic bloodshed movies and oldschool action films. One criticism I had was that the character development was lacking somewhat (Pankaj Tripathi, the villain, David Harbour, the General — they get barely any backstory). But personally, I didn't mind this and the rather straightforward storyline, since the movie was always engaging, and importantly, delivered on the action. The cinematography was good, music was kind of generic but served the purpose.Overall, definitely recommended! I thought it was very good! (More in comments…) #531 / 25-Apr-20

The Avengers (2012)Directed by Joss Whedon “You and I remember Budapest very differently.” Third drawing for #sixfanarts, one of the suggestions I got was Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, and I chose to draw her from “The Avengers” (I liked her look the best here — here and probably the blond short hair look in “Avengers: Infinity War”). This is from the scene in the movie where Nat and Clint are fighting the Chitauri and she says it’s just like Budapest, and Clint says that the both of them remember Budapest very differently.Hope we will see what happened in Budapest in the upcoming “Black Widow” movie, in November. (Budapest was one of the establishing shots seen in the trailer.) Today I came Live on @instagram (something that I have not done during this Lockdown period at all), and drew this. The Live was for about 50 minutes, thanks to everyone who joined, hope it wasn’t too boring or draggy! You can still see the video till around 8 PM tomorrow (19-Apr-20) on Stories on my @karthikabhiram account. I plan to upload the video on IGTV as well. The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on an A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#pencildrawing #pencil#blackwidow #natasharomanoff #scarlettjohannson#530 / 18-Apr-20

The Mandalorian (2019)Created by Jon FavreauSecond drawing for #sixfanarts challenge! Now that Disney+ is available in India, one can watch the excellent show "The Mandalorian". While people refer to this character as Baby Yoda, it's not actually the same character, since the events of "The Mandalorian" take place after the events of "Return of the Jedi". So it's a child of the same species as Yoda, and we will probably see more about the Child itself in Season 2.The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#babyyoda #themandalorian @disneyplushotstar #disneyplus#starwars #starwarsmemes #memes #babyyodamemes #thisistheway#pencildrawing #pencil#529 / 14-Apr-20

The Lion King (1994)Directed by Roger Allers and Rob MinkoffFirst artwork for #sixfanarts challenge. I had posted a Story a little while ago asking for suggestions of characters to make fanart of. Many suggestions came (thanks to everyone) and I've picked six out of those. Timon and Pumbaa from "The Lion King" was a suggestion, I was initially planning to draw Timon only but then I decided to do both of them. This is from the beginning of the "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" scene in the movie. Oh, and to me, "The Lion King" is the 1994 movie only. As much as I respect Jon Favreau (he did make the first MCU movie after all!) and as much as a fantastic technical achievement the 2019 remake is, I feel the original one is way better because all the characters have so much 'life' and 'character' to them, if you get what I mean! The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #karthikabhiram#pencildrawing #pencil#thelionking #pumbaa #timon#disneyplus @disneyplushotstarvip#528 / 11-Apr-20
