Old coins at Old City. 🪙 From the Photo Walk organised by @passionographer_ and @rizwan26 a couple of weekends ago. I edited this one to have a darker and more moody vibe, inspired by the pictures on @petespiratelife (the style is very different of course but that was the inspiration). @apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone #karthikabhiram

Eternals (2021)Directed by Chloé ZhaoI started this drawing of @gemmachan from @eternals a few days back, got around to finishing it yesterday. I scanned it and thought I’ll shoot a couple of photos to post as well. However, I’m making this a single image post (posting one of these after a long time!) because @instagram has introduced this feature that’s under testing, where you can add music to a feed post. It appears to work on single image posts and not Carousels so, posting this scan. The drawing was done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 notebook.About the movie, I wrote my thoughts in an earlier post. I liked the movie. #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #pencil #pencildrawing #pencilsketch #eternals #gemmachan #626 / 21-Nov-21

Cosmos (2019)Directed by Elliot and Zander Weaver"Cosmos" is about three astronomers who go out into the woods one night, and come across a mysterious signal. Most of the movie is just the three characters in the one location, but thanks to the character development, the writing, acting, music, cinematography and the restrained way it's made, it's very engaging. The movie may not be for everyone, some may find it slow moving. Perhaps it could have benefited by being a bit shorter, nevertheless it had me onboard throughout and I enjoyed it. I love this kind of conceptual science fiction stories, and this was very nicely done.My appreciation for the movie went up further once I watched a behind the scenes video — it was actually made for "no budget" which means none of the crew or actors got paid, all gear was borrowed, and the crew was just a handful of people performing all the roles on set. It was five years from conception to the final release. It comes across as a very accomplished movie! I've seen other indie movies that tend to go crazy with colour grading, which make them look amateurish, this one was very professional all through and it looks far bigger budgeted than it actually was. A labour of love from all involved, one certainly has to appreciate it. I highly recommend searching for this movie and watching it. I watched it on @tubi where it's available for free.I wanted to make a sketch and write about this, but rather than having to draw all three characters, I thought I'd draw one of the caps they wear — with the name of their astronomy group. Since the text on the cap is written in white, it would be difficult to draw around it (or I'd have to write with Gelly Roll), so I decided to make an invert drawing. Found an image of the cap online, inverted it and used it as reference. This drawing was done with ballpoint pen on A6 sketchbook. Swipe to see scans.@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#invertart #cosmos#625 / 20-Nov-21

A flatlay picture showing some recent art related acquisitions! I received a custom designed postcard from @abujoist, ordered @sketchedup20’s comic book “The Call of Kallisto” Issue 1, and ordered the May-June Issue of @idreamwithwords’s zine “Dances with the Daffodils”, which has some of my artwork featured in it as well! Do check out the creators I mentioned to see more of their work. @apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone #vsco #karthikabhiram #flatlay

[#NOSPOILERS]Midnight Mass (2021)Created by Mike FlanaganI loved Mike Flanagan's show "The Haunting of Hill House" from 2018, and have enjoyed his movies as well. So, I was eager to watch this show and since it's got only 7 episodes, I was able to watch all of it over the span of a couple of days. The series is set in the island community of Crockett, where mysterious miraculous events start happening, with the arrival of Father Paul Hill (Hamish Linklater). The show spends a lot of time building the characters and that makes it all the more effective. I thought it was a fantastic show. It is beautifully photographed (Michael Fimognari), with a moody feel, and there are lots of symmetrical shots in the show. The two standout aspects for me were the writing and the incredible acting by the cast. It's Mike Flanagan's unique blend of drama, mystery and horror! It may not appeal to everyone but I personally loved it. It's a different take on a particular genre of film / series, and I appreciated it's nuanced handling of characters and themes of religion. Two episodes as per what I observed, had long take sequences, which would have been quite difficult to execute. The one in Episode 2, I believe is an unbroken 7 minute shot. It's not as complex as Episode 6 of "Hill House" which was a 51 minute episode made of just 4 or 5 shots, but is still wonderfully crafted.I drew @therealhamishlinklater as Father Paul from the show, the drawing was done with Bic ballpoint pen on A5 moleskine sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scanned version, there's also an unedited scanned version in the set, and I also included a screenshot of a Story that I posted about 3 years ago, talking about Episode 6 of "Hill House".@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#midnightmass #mikeflanagan#ballpointpen #ballpointpendrawing#moleskine#624 / 18-Nov-21

The Office (2005-2013)Developed by Greg DanielsYesterday @primevideoin had posted a good quality picture of this moment from “The Office” where a young Michael Scott is being congratulated by boss Ed Truck, this has been used in numerous memes and I have been intending to draw it for a long time. So I did yesterday. The drawing is done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 notebook. You can swipe to see a scan and a few in progress pictures and videos. Some asked about the spray I was using, this is Camlin Arfina Fixative Spray, which protects pencil drawings from fading and smudging. I have been using this for the last 5-6 years and it has been very useful.@apple #iphone12mini #shotoniphone #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#theoffice #memes #theofficememes #pencildrawing #diwali #happydiwali #michaelscott #622 / 4-Nov-21
