𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐕𝐒 𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐈𝐒𝐓 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 — It’s been a considerably long time since this was trending, so I’m happy to post something for #artvsartist #artvsartist2021! Normally one would see artists putting up these collages roughly twice in a year. But the last time I remember seeing this and posting, was way back in May 2020. So, I’m glad that this has come up again and it’s an opportunity to post some favourites among the sketches I did in 2021 as a round up to this year. Taking the opportunity to post two collages covering movie sketches, meme sketches, drawings of friends and for their art challenges, a drawing I did with left hand, and so on! Naked Lunch (1991)Directed by David Cronenberg I watched this surreal 1991 movie on @tubi a couple of days ago. It stars Peter Weller as William Lee, an exterminator in 1953 New York. The bug powder he uses is a highly addictive substance, he experiences hallucinations involving talking bugs and a conspiracy. You have to be in the right frame of mind to watch this movie, it’s certainly not for everyone. It has a mystery/thriller vibe to it but at times you’ll be puzzled as to what’s actually going on. As can be expected from Cronenberg, there are some scenes of disgusting body horror and gooey stuff reminiscent of his “Videodrome” and “eXistenZ”. I enjoyed the movie myself, apparently Cronenberg took elements from the source novel and other writings by author William S Burroughs and fashioned them into this screenplay.The movie involves typewriters morphing into talking bugs, this is one such bit from the film. The drawing was done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 notebook. Swipe to see a scan. The third slide here has a short video clip (from roughly around 52 and a half min into the movie), the sound at the end is the zombieman death sound from “Doom” and “Doom II”. It’s actually the sound of a camel!The movie also has an interesting title sequence inspired by Saul Bass, utilising text in different weights. I guess the font used was Futura. Hawkeye (2021)Created by Jonathan IglaWe have two Marvel Cinematic Universe properties left to watch in December, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" a few days from now, and the remaining 3 episodes of this show "Hawkeye". Like the Marvel shows that have been released this year, "Hawkeye" also has fantastic production values and is set post the events of "Avengers: Endgame". So far, this show seems relatively self-contained and not affecting the events of the Universe as a whole (unlike say, "Loki" which set up the multiverse for "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness"), but I don't think that will still be the case by the end.This show has Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) coming across the Ronin suit which sets off a gang against her. Clint/Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) has to put his Christmas plans on hold and team up with Kate to go up against the gang. I honestly wasn't as enthusiastic to watch this show as with some of the previous MCU shows but once I started, I'm finding this really good and entertaining. The show has good action, nice banter between Clint and Kate, and winter-Christmasy vibes that reminded me of "Home Alone 2" and the very first "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" comics.Let's see where the show goes, there is speculation that it would introduce the villain Kingpin to the MCU.I was thinking of doing a drawing of Hailee Steinfeld but instead drew Lucky the Pizza Dog from the show.
