Brightburn (2019)Directed by David YaroveskyI saw the trailer for this James Gunn produced superhero horror movie and wanted to see it, as it looked very interesting. The movie takes the Superman origin story and turns it creepy. The movie opens with a spacecraft crash landing on the Breyer farm in the small town of Brightburn, Kansas. Like Kal El landing on Earth, the ship has a small baby in it, adopted by parents who cannot conceive, and they raise the boy as their own, never revealing to him his origin. At the age of 12, the boy Brandon begins exhibiting powers and things take a horrific turn. At only a little above 90 min long the movie is entertaining and interesting. It does set up a lot of story threads though and feels more like the first part in a longer story. Maybe not as satisfyingly resolved as I'd have liked. But I liked the movie overall, it did have some interesting ideas and has some gore and violence. Jackson Dunn gives a creepy performance as Brandon Breyer. I drew Brandon with his mask from the movie. The drawing was done with Bic multi colour ballpoint pen — the same brand that Brandon is shown using — on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.Brandon uses the 1.0 mm 4 colour ballpoint pen (the one that's white and blue in colour, and whose ink colours are black, blue, red and green). I used the one with the 0.7 mm point size. The blue of his shirt was with 1.0 mm pen of a different set of colours.@brightburnmovie @brustro @creativehandsartmaterials#DailyMovieSketch #brightburn #ballpointpen #inksketch #bic #pen#449 / 30-May-19

The Terminator (1984)Directed by James CameronThe trailer for the upcoming Terminator movie, "Terminator: Dark Fate" (directed by "Deadpool"'s Tim Miller) was released yesterday. The first two Terminator movies are classics. The others range from so-so and forgettable, to so-so and cartoonish, and some would say I'm being kind in describing them that way. "Dark Fate" is apparently going to be a direct sequel to T2, ignoring the others. Pardon my lack of enthusiasm, but I'm being very wary of this. The trailer seems interesting, but my first reaction was that it doesn't look any different from the previous sequels. I'm keeping expectations in check, let's see how the movie is.When I heard the title Dark Fate, I thought it was interesting, because, I called one of my Doom levels that (I even made a "Dark Fate 2"). How that name came about is, I looked up the meaning of the word 'doom' itself, and it said, 'a dark fate'. I did this sketch from the first movie as a throwback, and that's from the police station scene where Schwarzenegger utters the classic line, "I'll be back". Apparently the line was "I'll come back" in the original script, which doesn't quite have the same ring to it. The drawing was done with the @ns1pen and this is a scan.It has been a long time since I watched the original film. Must do that. I re-watched T2 some time ago, and it's a brilliant movie that holds up really well. I did a T2 sketch for @mangopenciler's 90s nostalgia art challenge a little while ago as well, so you can scroll and check that out too.#dailymoviesketch #terminator #terminatordarkfate #schwarzenegger @schwarzenegger #ballpointpen #inksketch #penandink #ns1pen#448 / 24-May-19

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019)Directed by Chad StahelskiI watched this third chapter in the "John Wick" series twice over the last few days. The movie is awesome! It picks up 10 minutes after Chapter 2 – with Wick on the run, a bounty of $14 million on his head, and hitmen all over the world after his life. He has been ex-communicated from the secret society of assassins after breaking a rule, and must fight to stay alive. The ensuing two hours+ are almost entirely action, and brilliant set pieces at that.I love the way these movies appear to be happening in an alternate, almost fantasy-type reality. I loved the comic book-ish feel of it, and the world building flows nicely from Part 2. It has an engaging story, a fast pace, is well acted by all and is very entertaining. I loved the cinematography, the set design and the music as well. The action scenes deserve to be talked about separately! If one was wondering how they would top Part 2, it’s as if they said, “hold my beer”, and proceeded to show precisely how! Action is shot wide, with less camera movement and cutting, which puts one in awe of what the stunt team and the actors pulled off here. Massive respect for Keanu Reeves and for that matter the entire cast, who are actually performing most of their own martial arts and stunts.Like oldschool martial arts movies, “Parabellum” has extended fight scenes with long takes, and is probably the most un-Hollywood Hollywood action movie in recent memory! After so many years of action movies, it’s difficult to show us something we haven’t seen before – but they did just that. The violence is strong but artistic, and will leave you with a big grin on your face, seeing the creative ways they came up with, of killing people! I am reminded of “The Raid” movies (for the very high standard of action), and there’s even a nice scene with Cecep Arif Rahman and Yayan Ruhian from those films fighting Wick. You literally can’t ask for anything more from a movie like this, it’s done with utmost respect to action fans. Certainly, along with “Avengers: Endgame”, this is another entry into my Best Movies of 2019 list. [More in first comment]#447 / 19-May-19

John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum (2019)Directed by Chad StahelskiBirthday Post! Thought I'd do a special sketch for today and it's a poster.Recently, on the @johnwickmovie account, several alternate poster artworks were featured from multiple artists. Apparently, the brief given was just to have fun with the concept and make a cool John Wick poster.I was inspired by seeing those and I thought I'd try my hand at one too. Here it is — since the John Wick movies appear to be taking place in a surreal, almost alternate reality (the world building is awesome, especially in Chapter 2, what with the secret society of assassins and their rules and all), I thought of making the poster like an illustration from a history book or an old statue. And I had an alternate title also in mind. The actual sketch was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned, I edited it in Photoshop (not much, just changed the colours a bit and added the text). The font is IM Fell DW Pica SC. I looked up a few Blender / Poser 3D models on Google Images for reference. Also I have to mention @mohanty.shrusti here, as the idea for this artwork came about from our discussion on those alternate posters!BTW I have booked my ticket for the movie for tomorrow (16 May)! @bookmyshowin app was showing two shows open for tomorrow, so I immediately booked for the 11 PM show. Really looking forward to watching the movie! Also tagging @ampposters on this, hope you would like this!#johnwick #johnwick3 #parabellum#poster #pencilart #pencilsketch #keanureeves#karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch#446 / 15-May-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #InfinitySagaArt]Iron Man 3 a.k.a. Iron Man Three (2013)Directed by Shane BlackI re-watched "Iron Man Three" (that's the way the movie's title appears on screen in the end credits, though all the posters refer to it as "Iron Man 3") this weekend and it was a really fun movie. I don't get the criticism that seems to be leveled at the movie these days. It was fun when I saw it 6 years ago and I really enjoyed it now as well. The movie has Tony Stark battling anxiety and PTSD, having to face the terrorist The Mandarin (the treatment of this character is what one can understand, drew criticism), and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) who is experimenting with Extremis, a treatment that causes living tissue to regenerate through DNA hacking. It's all a lot of fun and they throw in funny dialogue and get creative with Tony's various Iron Man suits. I liked the music in this movie by Bryan Tyler (the end credits sequence theme, called "Can You Dig It" is a favourite). I drew Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark 42 Suit. The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#ironman #avengers #tonystark #robertdowneyjr #rdj #mark42#AvengersEndgame #pencilart #pencilsketch#miniatureart #jarvis #housepartyprotocol #cleanslateprotocol #ironman3 #ironmanthree#445 / 13-May-19

It: Chapter Two (2019)Directed by Andy MuschiettiThe trailer for It Chapter Two was released a couple of days back. Set 27 years after the events of the first film, the sequel sees the "Losers Club" returning to the town of Derry as adults, facing off against the evil entity Pennywise. The 2017 film was very well made and scary, and the sequel is supposed to be even scarier and bloodier. Looking forward to it!The interesting thing about the trailer is that the major part of it is just one very creepy scene, with the usual quick edit montage lasting only a couple of tens of seconds. I drew Pennywise the clown from the trailer. The drawing was done with Gelly Roll pen and Uni Pin Fine Liner, and Prismacolor pencils on A5 black sketch pad and scanned.#it #itchapter2 #stephenking#pennywise #DailyMovieSketch#444 / 12-May-19

This looks very similar to the photo I posted on @karthikabhiram but it's actually a different picture. This is my 85mm lens held reversed (makes it macro) over my 0.5 cm × 0.5 cm Ant-Man drawing. #google #pixel2xl #teampixel #karthikabhiram #DailyMovieSketch

[#DailyMovieSketch × #InfinitySagaArt]Ant-Man (2015)Directed by Peyton ReedOK, so this is the smallest drawing I have ever done. I planned to do one inch square drawings based on MCU movies. Yesterday I thought, it'll be interesting to go smaller, and thought to draw the scene from "The Avengers" with Cap and Tony ("You're not the one to make the sacrifice play" / "Everything special about you came out of a bottle", which was used in many memes on "Civil War"). So I thought to make those half inch square in size. And then today I thought — what about "Ant-Man"? So I did this, 0.5 cm × 0.5 cm (or a bit smaller than 0.25 in × 0.25 in) size. It only took a few minutes to do because it's so small. But it was very difficult to render the details and I don't think I'd be able to draw a face at that size, at least not with what I used for this. This was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil and a bit of Prismacolor pencils on paper and scanned.Swipe to see a little zoomed in version.#antman #marvelstudios#marvel #mcu @marvel_india#pencilart #pencilsketch #miniatureart#443 / 11-May-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #InfinitySagaArt]Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019)Directed by Jon WattsOn Friday and the weekend I was attending the three day PEP Photo Summit (see my @karthikabhiram account for pictures and Stories from there), so, did not do any new sketches.A couple of days ago, Marvel released the new trailer for the upcoming MCU movie "Spider-Man: Far From Home". They announced that the 'spoiler ban' on "Avengers: Endgame" was being lifted as of Monday — I wasn't aware that there was such a thing, but I know why now, since they wanted to release this trailer, and it contains spoilers for Endgame. It even has a small spoiler warning from @tomholland2013 before it actually starts.I watched it and it seems like it's going to be an entertaining movie. And since this was also intended as a part of my Infinity Saga Art series, I decided to make a sketch on it. Like the previous one, this is a one inch square drawing, done with 0.5mm 2B mechanical pencil, @prismacolor pencils and Gelly Roll pen on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#spiderman #spidermanfarfromhome#spoilerman #avengers #AvengersEndgame#marvelstudios #marvelindia @marvel_india#pencilart #pencilsketch #miniatureart#442 / 8-May-19

[#DailyMovieSketch × #InfinitySagaArt]Iron Man (2008)Directed by Jon Favreau “‘I am Iron Man.’ Think you’re the only superhero in the world? Mr Stark, you’ve become part of a bigger universe. You just don’t know it yet.” Little did we, the audience, realised just how true that line would end up becoming! It's been several years since I watched 2008's "Iron Man", the movie that began the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe, getting to 11 years now and 21 future movies! While it's not the first movie to have a post credits scene, this one, where Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury comes to Tony Stark's building wanting to talk to him about a little something called the "Avenger" initiative, is significant, because it's the start of the "shared continuity" which Marvel Studios pulled off so well.I remember when this film came out, I was not expecting too much out of it, and Iron Man was not that popular a hero. I was pleasantly surprised as it was a very well made movie, and thought it was one of the best movies of that year. It holds up well even now, it's entertaining, action packed, the story is involving, it has a nice tone and the visual effects are great. Robert Downey Jr owned the character of course.A few things of interest — the movie ends with Black Sabbath's song "Iron Man", and in "The Avengers", you see Tony wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt.There's a reference to "The Big Lebowski" in "Avengers: Endgame", and Jeff Bridges who plays the villain here was in that movie! So wait, Lebowski was actually a movie released in the Marvel Universe? No one noticed that the actor in that movie looked like Obadiah Stane? Speaking of Jeff Bridges, do check out the actor's website, he documented the shoot of this movie with some awesome wide angle film photos!I loved the music by "Game of Thrones" composer Ramin Djawadi in this movie, pity that his themes were not used in subsequent Iron Man movies.I thought of doing one inch art pieces based on each movie in the saga, and have come up with a list (check on Stories). This is the first one, featuring the scene mentioned above. Drawn with 0.5mm 2B pencil on A6 Brustro sketchbook and scanned.#441 / 1-May-19
