Posting after a little break! There haven't been new sketches here for a while, the reason for that is I have been busy with work and travel. September and October are the peak months for Campus Hiring and I have been busy with Recruitment Drives in different institutes (see my other account @karthikabhiram for glimpses of these). I will try to post sketches whenever I can in the interim time though, but till October it'll be kind of sparse. Last year October was relatively free so I could do the entire #Inktober challenge. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it this year though. Still, let's see. Here's a #ThrowbackThursday post. Last year at Comic Con Hyderabad, I got my sketch of Natalie Portman from "V for Vendetta" autographed by the graphic novel's artist, David Lloyd. I had posted a photo of this sketch before but this is a scanned version.

South Park: Season 21 Episode 1 "White People Renovating Houses" (2017)Directed by Trey ParkerI've been a fan of "South Park" ever since I watched episodes of it in the early 2000s. Episode 1 of Season 21 came out recently (can be watched for free on the South Park website), and this episode involved Eric Cartman using an @Amazon Alexa device. The thing is, whatever Cartman says to the device actually would trigger a real Amazon Alexa if you have it in the same room. Audience members apparently found their Alexa having set an alarm for 7 AM, or found things like "scrotum bags" added to their Shopping List.I thought the episode wasn't that great like some of the other genius episodes of "South Park", but it was still funny. Of course, the Alexa sequences were hilarious. I drew Eric Cartman from the scene where he triggers different devices like Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Siri. It was drawn with 2B pencil and Prismacolor pencils on paper and scanned.#289 / 17-Sep-17

Stephen King's It a.k.a. It (1990)Directed by Tommy Lee Wallace There has been a lack of posts for the last few days, that's because I was unwell for a couple of days and was also tied up with work. I did manage to watch the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King's novel "It" some days back, and on Saturday, I also saw the 2017 remake, directed by Andy Muschietti. The story concerns an evil entity preying on kids in the town of Derry, Maine. The entity manifests itself as Pennywise the Dancing Clown – and is active once every 30 years. A group of kids called the Losers Club encountered and defeated Pennywise years ago, and they must face It again when it resurfaces in the present, with them as adults. The 1990 adaptation was a two part TV miniseries, running a little over 3 hours long. I quite enjoyed it, and liked the kids segments the best. The 2017 version is Chapter One, and focuses only on the kids storyline. It was really well done I felt, the performances of the child actors were fantastic and their dialogue was very funny and enjoyable (surprisingly it was pretty largely uncut in the theatrical release here). I drew Tim Curry as Pennywise from the 1990 film. He really made the role his own. The sketch was done in pencil and Prismacolor pencils on paper and scanned. In the 2017 version, Bill Skarsgard plays Pennywise. #288 / 11-Sep-17

Predestination (2014)Directed by The Spierig BrothersI first saw "Predestination" a couple of years ago and I thought it was an extremely underrated movie that didn't get the attention it deserved. In my opinion it's one of the best movies of 2014. The movie has recently come out on Netflix and I rewatched it some days back, and it's absolutely brilliant.I watched it without knowing much about it and I believe that's the best way to see it. So, I won't give away any plot details except to mention that the movie concerns time travel, an agent trying to stop a bomber, and a character named Jane whose story is utterly fascinating. The movie's engaging story will keep you completely involved, it's got gorgeous cinematography and production design. The movie is based on Robert A Heinlein's short story "All You Zombies", and the filmmakers have set it in a 1970s-80s time period. I have not read the story but this is supposed to be quite a close adaptation. At any rate, the directors wrote the script as well, and considering the complex storyline, it's a very well written movie. The two leads, Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook are excellent in their roles, and Sarah Snook in particular, is simply outstanding in the movie.I also enjoyed The Spierig Brothers' previous movie "Daybreakers" (haven't seen it in a very long time though), but I think this is their best work yet. They are directing the eighth "Saw" movie, "Jigsaw", and I am looking forward to it.This is a drawing of Sarah Snook as Jane from the movie. It was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on paper, and scanned.#287 / 6-Sep-17
