Attended Hyderabad Artists Meetup today and showed my work on Instagram – both the sketches here on @dailymoviesketch and some of the photos from @karthikabhiram. It was great to be a part of this meetup. I'll be posting another group photo on my other account. #VSCOCam #Canon #5DMarkIII #50mm

[A drawing of @kennethseb and @prattprattpratt from the recently released video – "Chris Pratt does the Butter Chicken Rap"] Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017)Directed by James Gunn (@jamesgunn)Some days back, Marvel India released a trailer for GotG Vol 2, which featured a 1980s Bappi Lahiri song. I thought it was a pretty clever piece of marketing. A little while after that, there was a fun video with stand up comedian Kenny Sebastian (@kennethseb) interviewing Chris Pratt (@prattprattpratt), teaching him some Hindi, doing some improv. It was a nice video and I thought I'd use that as a basis for a sketch. This was done with a mechanical pencil with 0.5mm 2B lead and scanned. I added the Guardians logo in Photoshop. I'll post a photo of the drawing on my main account @karthikabhiram. Kenny and Crisp Rat… uhhh… Chris, if you guys see this drawing I hope you like it 🙂 #251 / 28-Apr-17

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)Directed by Rian Johnson The first teaser and poster for this movie was released a few days ago. While I think in terms of a trailer building the anticipation for the movie, the "Thor: Ragnarok" one was more entertaining, this was good too. It seemed pretty dark, and apart from the shot of Kylo Ren with his lightsaber I couldn't pick up anything to draw from it. So, I drew this picture of Daisy Ridley as Rey from a poster that was released before. This was drawn in pencil and scanned. I had bought a new mechanical pencil and drew this with the 0.5mm HB lead that was in it, I think, now I prefer the 2B ones. #250 / 22-Apr-17

Sharing this again, as there seemed to be some trouble with yesterday's post. I had made it a multiple image post, due to which I wasn't able to share it on FB, and I also faced trouble in tagging people. This is a poster for a fictional movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger (@schwarzenegger) and Steven Seagal (@seagalofficial). It's based on an idea by Max Temkin (@maxtemkin) who made a 1990s action movie title generator. This post features the artwork and main title only. I drew the two stars in pencil and scanned the art, and added the text and colours in Photoshop. See the previous post, for the full poster (it's in 27" × 40" dimensions). I tried to make the credits also as authentic as possible. The cast and crew for this movie are actually people who were working on the action movies at the time. It's got a pretty big name cast and crew. I'm sure any 80s/90s action movie fan would love to see a movie like this

[A poster based on a fictional movie!] Maximum Force Forever (1992)Directed by Renny Harlin Yesterday, I came across a tweet by @maxtemkin, where he posted a bunch of computer generated 1990s action movie titles. I loved the idea, and I thought, why not do a poster based on one of them. So I picked this, "Maximum Force Forever" and designed a poster around it. The artwork was done in pencil and the text and colours were added in Photoshop. The background to the fictional movie is this – it is the sequel to "Maximum Force" (1988) and "Maximum Force II" (1990), both starring Steven Seagal. For the first time in a movie franchise, the third entry got a bigger budget and brought on board a bigger star – Arnold Schwarzenegger (@Schwarzenegger). This movie is envisioned as a science fiction thriller, set in the near future of 1998. The two action stars must stop a cyber terrorist who threatens to bring about Armageddon. Check out the credit block, I tried to make the titles as authentic as possible too (the crew consists of people who might have actually been part of this film's production). Tagging some movie poster accounts as well, you may find this interesting! @ampposters @alternativemovieposters @movieflyer #249 / 17-Apr-17

Ida (2013)Directed by Pawel PawlikowskiI watched this movie as part of a screening by Cinephiles Film Club (you can follow the page on FB) on Friday. This is a Polish movie and won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar in 2014. It's set in the 1960s, and is about an orphaned girl, who is in a convent and is going to soon take her vows to become a nun. However, she is told that she is of Jewish descent, and that her real name is Ida, and she has an aunt. Her aunt is the only surviving family member, and she goes to live with her, before taking her vows. The movie is about Ida experiencing a life outside the convent and trying to find out more about her family.First of all, I must say that I found the movie very, very, slow moving. I personally didn't connect with it and didn't enjoy watching it at all because of the slow pace. The acting and the technical aspects were good though. I especially enjoyed the cinematography – every shot was carefully composed, and this is one of those movies where you could literally just pull any frame and it'd look great as a photo by itself. The movie is filmed in black and white and in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio (@imdb says it was shot on the Arri Alexa Plus 4:3). I found the compositions used interesting – in certain frames, the background was symmetrical, but the subject (the actors in the frame) were placed at the bottom left or right corners with a lot of space above. That's obviously deliberate, but it's certainly unlike anything I've seen before. However, as much as I liked the cinematography, that didn't keep my interest for the rest of the movie. It probably might improve on a second viewing, but I doubt that I'd want to watch it again.I drew actress Agata Trzebuchowska as Ida from the movie, from one of the frames I really liked. It was done in pencil and scanned.#248 / 16-Apr-17

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)Directed by Taika Waititi "He's a friend from work!" The trailer for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe movie "Thor: Ragnarok" dropped quite as a surprise, and it's a real fun trailer, set to Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song". It doesn't reveal too many details about the plot but ends by showing Thor in a gladiatorial fight against a familiar opponent. I liked Chris Hemsworth's shorter hair look here so I drew it. This is a pencil drawing that I scanned and posted. The red streaks are done in colour pencil. We have "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2" and "Spider-Man: Homecoming" to look forward to before this one, and although I've not liked the other "Thor" movies so much, this one looks like it'll be a lot of fun (plus Benedict Cumberbatch will be in it as Doctor Strange, at least in one scene). #247 / 14-Apr-17

[Available to purchase as a T-shirt through @paintcollar!] The drawing of Kattappa from "Baahubali 2"'s trailer which I did, has been uploaded to @paintcollar and is available to purchase as a T-shirt. You can check out that and my other work at http://paintcollar.com/karthikabhiram. I had already posted the scanned version of this sketch earlier (and the @baahubalimovie official Instagram account had reposted it as well). So now I'm posting a photo here, and I posted the scan on my other account @karthikabhiram.

Breaking Bad (2008-2013)I recently started watching "Breaking Bad" (@amcbreakingbad) on Netflix. Currently, I am on Season 2, Episode 1 and am loving the show. It's very well written and acted and I'm eager to see where they take it. The plot of a chemistry teacher diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer and turning to cooking crystal meth is interesting and I love the two leads – the actors as well as the characters – Bryan Cranston as Walter White / Heisenberg and Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman. So I drew Walter from the show. This was a much requested drawing that people wanted to see here and I finally did it 🙂 This is a 2B pencil drawing on paper, scanned and edited in Photoshop. I think this is one of my best drawings. #246 / 9-Apr-17
