HDR Video in Instagram Reels on iPhone • (EDIT: This doesn’t always seem to be displayed in HDR.) I recently have been observing that on iPhone, when viewing some Reels, they appear to be shown in HDR. The iPhone 12 series and above support recording Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range video. I usually had HDR turned off because those clips became SDR anyway when used outside of iPhone and even in Reels. Now it looks like Instagram has added support for HDR video in Reels. This Reel is made up of HDR clips, so when viewing it on iPhone you should see increased brightness especially in the highlight areas (look at the whites). They will look ‘normal’ on other phones. I did a few tests, apparently if you use HDR and SDR clips, the whole thing becomes SDR, also if I add any text or captions, again you lose the HDR. I actually wanted to show a comparison and give some explanation but this caption will have to do for that. To use this you have to go to the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Camera, and under the Video Recording options, you can turn on the option for High Dynamic Range. Also, when uploading the Reel, do it preferably on WiFi, and check the option under Advanced Settings to Upload at Highest Quality and make sure it’s on (it’s off by default). #karthikabhiram #tutorial #hdrvideo #highdynamicrange #hellohyderabad #hitechcity #hdr #shotoniphone #iphone
