The Haunted World of El Superbeasto (2009)Directed by Rob ZombieRob Zombie has made some interesting movies. His best work in my opinion is the revenge story "The Devil's Rejects", the sequel to "House of 1000 Corpses". In 2009, this very curious effort — an adult animated comedy was released. This follows the adventures of El Superbeasto (voiced by Tom Papa), a former Mexican wrestler turned pornographic filmmaker, and his sister, superspy Suzi X (Sheri Moon Zombie), as they try to prevent Dr Satan (Paul Giamatti) from marrying a woman with the devil's mark, which will give him the powers of Hell.I liked this movie a lot, and feel it's underrated, and didn't get the attention it deserved. But then again, it probably appeals to a more niche kind of crowd. A lot of it is inspired by old school horror movies, Zombie's own characters and non-mainstream 70's/80's animation. The animation style is colourful, cartoonish and suitably slapstick. It's based on a comic book series that Zombie himself created, and I appreciate it because it's obviously his vision on screen, there's nothing like it elsewhere. It has cartoonish violence, nudity, and songs with vulgar lyrics, and it goes by quite quickly (just 77 min). One might think the storyline is a bit thin and the whole thing could have more substance, but then again considering the type of movie it is, I think one should not have those expectations and just enjoy it. The filmmakers obviously had a good time making it (though I believe it took a considerably long time in production). One of my favourite characters in the movie is the stripper Velvet Von Black (voiced by Rosario Dawson, who I thought was excellent). She is the woman with the devil's mark (666 on her butt). I drew Velvet, the drawing was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A6 sketchbook and scanned.#dailymoviesketch #ballpointpen#515 / 13-Feb-20
