The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018)Directed by Fede AlvarezI was looking forward to this movie after watching the slick trailer, and got to see it yesterday. The film is a follow up to David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", itself an adaptation of the first book in Steig Larsson's Millennium Trilogy. Apparently the studio wanted to reboot the series so this is based on David Lagercrantz's book and has a new director and cast. The story has Lisbeth (Claire Foy) being contacted to steal a piece of software that will allow one to have access to any nuclear weapon across the world. She goes through with it but is attacked only to have it stolen from her by a mysterious syndicate, and she has to get it back. The movie is different from Fincher's take, much more accessible and toned down. With four seconds cut, a couple of bits blurred and few swear words muted, it has a U/A rating in India (a PG-13 equivalent). Lisbeth and the tech the way it's portrayed here seem to have superpowers and some parts require you to stretch belief. Also, the plot is quite forgettable I thought, a standard people after a MacGuffin type story. That's not to say it's not entertaining, however — it's a real credit to director Fede Alvarez who keeps everything moving, and engages your interest. He also managed to achieve a very polished look to the movie on less than half the budget of the original (I checked Wikipedia). Claire Foy also is great as Lisbeth Salander. I loved the cinematography and music too. Overall, would recommend. There's a lot of Sony product placement in the movie, Lisbeth has shifted from Apple to Android and Sony gear here. This is a quick sketch of Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander, it was done with an Artline 0.1mm pen and a red gel pen, on Brustro A6 sketchbook and scanned.#thegirlinthespidersweb #dragontattoo#lisbethsalander #clairefoy#DAILYMOVIESKETCH#394 / 26-Nov-18
