Logan's Run (1976)Directed by Michael AndersonIt has been a while since I posted a sketch here as I had been travelling. A little while ago, @ampposters posted an artwork based on this movie, and I watched it a few days back. The movie is loosely based on the book of the same name, and depicts the future society of the year 2274. Humans live a carefree lifestyle in a huge domed city, completely cut off from the outside world and are permitted to live only up to the age of 30. Once they reach their Last Day, they participate in a ritual called "Carrousel", where they give up their lives voluntarily, hoping that some of them are selected for renewal. Those who do not accept this limit are called Runners, and Sandmen are the police force who keep them in check. Michael York plays a Sandman, Logan 5, who is tasked with finding the Runners' "Sanctuary", and becomes a Runner himself. The setup is intriguing and the movie sounds more interesting than it actually is. A lot of the movie involves people going from one place to another, and it seems quite dated to me. Some of the visuals though were splendid, the production and set design are great and I liked the cinematography too. Overall it was a good movie though obviously not for everyone. It's a mix of science fiction and 1960s/70s disco aesthetic! If that sounds good to you, do watch. This is a sketch of one of the attendees of the "Carrousel", showing off the crazy costume design. Done with 0.5mm 2B and @Prismacolor pencils and scanned. The colour has bled a little into the paper due to the fixative I sprayed on it I guess.#355 / 1-Jul-18#logansrun #dailymoviesketch #pencil #pencilart
