Altered Carbon (2018)Created by Laeta KalogridisI watched this Netflix show a couple of months ago, but didn't get around to doing a sketch based on it till now. The show is set in the far future, almost 400 years from now. In this world, it is possible to download a person's consciousness into what is called a stack, a device attached to the spine at the base of the neck. This makes bodies simply "sleeves" for a person, and if one is rich enough, they can practically live forever, by resleeving themselves indefinitely. One such super rich "meth", Laurens Bancroft, gets soldier Takeshi Kovacs resleeved into a new body after over 250 years on ice, and asks him to solve Laurens's own murder – someone destroyed his stack as well as his sleeve, but thanks to his stack being backed up, he lives but has no memory of 48 hours, the time during which the murder happened. The show is 10 episodes long and I really loved it. It has fascinating ideas, blending those with a cyberpunk feel, noir mystery and action. The show features some kickass action choreography. It's definitely not for kids as it features a good helping of violence and nudity (there is even a very well done fight scene with one female character completely naked). The production values are high, the show looks awesome. Highly recommended for any science fiction fan. I drew Joel Kinnaman from the show, this is a still from the trailer showing the sleeve that he inhabits as Takeshi Kovacs, in the present timeline of the show. The drawing was done with 0.5mm 2B pencil on Brustro sketchbook and scanned. #343 / 7-May-18#DailyMovieSketch #alteredcarbon #takeshikovacs #stack #sleeve #pencildrawing #pencilsketch #pencil #pencilart #artistsofinstagram #artistsoninstagram #netflix #cyberpunk
